Does Google Voice require Shields Down?

Google is discontinuing Hangouts, so to continue to have ‘call phones’ available will require a Google Voice account.

Having made a preliminary test of GVoice, it appears that the same Shields Down setting I found was required in Hangouts (for the party I was calling to be able to hear me) is also required in GVoice.

Am I right?

(If so, since not having to lose privacy to use the service (esp. since it’s a “Google” service) would be preferable, I hope Brave Team can figure out a way for users to not have to disable Shields in order to use GVoice.)

Thanks.

Hello @mk7z

i know this does not address your issue but if you used a service then any tracker or shield would not help cause service like hangout /Gvoice require that you sign in which make then identify you no shield would help to block them from collecting some of the data

so it would be better to use other service

and for your issue did you tried to change the shield setting to allow all cookies and see if it work

hope that help and have a nice day

If you don’t want Google to spy on you, you should leave Google altogether.

@gmacar Do you know of an alt for Google Voice? I don’t, particularly re the calling feature.

I try to reserve the ‘call phones’ feature for conversations in which privacy isn’t an issue.

Hoping that Google will be bored to tears if it spies on me.

Thanks, @justsomeone1.

Do you know of another service that does what Google Voice does (phone calling in particular)?
I looked and didn’t find any.

I didn’t specifically allow cookies but I switched ‘all Shields’ off.

you welcome @mk7z

unfortunately i did not use any service that allow to call phone

try it and if it did not work try to change the other option to see which one that will make it work

and have a nice day
