Discussion: does WebM format video consume much CPU resource?

Does anyone experience a similar issue with WebM format video?

Yes — it probably affects older systems the most notably but WebM is the first thing I disable in Firefox because it’s a question of 5% (H.264) vs. 80% CPU usage. I stopped using Chrome on battery power since there’s no way to only use hardware-accelerated video, and since most WebM is transcoded this also correlated with a modest improvement in video quality as well.
