Disable Search History

I don’t know what this is called, but I want to delete this “search history” AND disable it all together.

EDIT: I don’t know what I turned off, but I disabled this somehow. Would still like an answer, so I can do this more easily in the future.

In your illustration, that search field appears to be one that is embedded within the particular website. But . . . you are probably looking for something like:

“Show search suggestions”(?):
