Default search engine in private browsing reverts to Brave

How can this issue be reproduced?

1. Set default search engine to something else (e.g. Startpage)
2. Open private window
3. Type a query into the search bar

Expected result:

Search is done in default search enging (not Brave search)

Brave Version( check About Brave):

1.80.113

Additional Information:

My main issue with using Brave search in private browsing is the AI summary, which doesn’t come up when I’m not in private browsing anyway. If there is a way to simply turn off the AI summary in private browsing as well, rather than switching the default search engine, I would be fine with that. If there is no way of dealing with this I may switch to a different browser as forced AI integration is a dealbreaker for me.

For my Brave Search bookmark, I use: https://search.brave.com/settings

There, DISABLE settings, including Answer with AI:

Then return to the top of the Brave Search settings page and click on the Brave icon:

On the Brave Search page, I always use the Brave Search Engine’s search field . . . not the URL address field.

I already had AI turned off in the search settings, but it still gives an AI-generated response when I search in private.

BTW, you might try !bangs:

‘https://duckduckgo.com/bangs?q=startpage’

!s in the URL address field, and tap your Enter / Return key . . . will send the browser window to the StartPage search webpage.

DuckDuckGo’s !bangs are incorporated in BB. Also, there are some Search Engine Shortcuts listed in BB Settings:
