Datenschutz, Einstellungen importieren, Suchergebnisse. IMMER DIE SELBE MELDUNG

Habe mir Brave runtergeladen.

Brave ver: v1.77.95
Windows ver: 22H2 (Build 19045.5679)

I have a problem with the warning in Brave that keeps popping up. I have tried all possible steps to remove it, but without success. I hope someone from the community can help me.

@PlayerOne

Please edit your Original Post (“OP”) above, in order to include:

  • Brave Browser version numbers
  • Operating System version numbers

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

  • brave://local-state

Search for:

  • default_browser_infobar_declined_count

The value may be a 0 or a 1 . . . for example:

  • "value": 1

The value of 1, means, that you saw the Default Browser prompt and declined.

IF the value is 1, and the problem remains, then . . .

You CANNOT edit the “Local State” file in the window that you see at brave://local-state

In order to edit that “Local State” file, you need to exit / quit everything . . . and I prefer to restart the computer.

Before running anything after the startup, locate that “Local State” file. Example > Windows OS:

  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Local State

Use a text editor to open that file. Search for:

  • default_browser_infobar_declined_count

That will be in a mass of information; on my Mac, looks like:

Set the value to 1

Save the file; close the file.

Start up Brave Browser and . . .

If the problem remains, then repeat the steps and set the value to 9999 ← re a related post here at the Brave Community.

So I found out that my “default_browser_infobar_declined_count” is 0. But in the local-state file (which is in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Local State) there are no default_browser settings at all.

@PlayerOne

Take a look at the following; make sure the correct permissions are set:

Installer Timing Out On Win10 Install + Installs in User App Directory - #4 by 289wk

Possibly, the Local State file permissions (and other permissions) need to be fixed, reset.

Yeah . . . but . . . the Local State file must be OK for writing to it, because other settings would not be set? A puzzle.

Fix or reset the permissions anyway.

By the way, you are correct about the path to the Local State file . . . and I updated my earlier reply; thanks.

Bah. I just check the Local State file for another Windows OS machine, and it also DOES NOT HAVE the default_browser_infobar_declined_count

So . . . I need to investigate more; apologies . . . and bah, again. I have not found, in either the Local State or the Preferences file (inside a Profile folder):

  • default_browser_infobar_declined_count

So, my suggestion is out-of-date, other than, fixing/resetting permissions.

Suggestions that, all of the following should be set:

  • Brave Browser as default browser
  • opening a PDF file ← set that task for Brave Browser to handle
  • opening .html and .htm files ← set that task for Brave Browser to handle

Again, apologies re the Local State file “wild goose chase.”

Running Brave as administrator seems to have worked. Well it kept all my settings and didn’t asked again, even after closing and restarting my pc, so I guess it’s saved now. I also checked default_browser_infobar_declined_count and it’s still 0, but that won’t make any problems anymore I hope.
So I thank you a lot for helping me out here!
