That’s just looking through the YouTube part of Reddit. I’m sure there’s a lot of other places to. But seems like it’s been going on for people for a while. Seems people are saying Firefox, Brave, Chrome, Vivaldi, etc. Also on Linux, Mac, Windows 10, Windows 11, etc.
Not sure anyone has found a method to the madness yet.
Permission error within the code of youtube causes darkmode launch failures.
This is fixable with scripts and extentions.
I myself just spun one up now if anyone needs.
(basically I made a browser extention just now to override the default css colours to fix darkmode)
As a workaround, you can use darkreader to darken only YT. Works.
But it is pretty pathetic that darkreader can make a better dark mode than google when they actually try
Hi and thank you forgetting back to me. I don’t think I started a new thread but I can see it is frustrating. I did an internet search first looking for threads and found this one first. I was not looking for Brave although that is my search engine. Long after I posted on Brave community I finally found out that it is a YouTube / google bug.
Thank you for all the hard work you do.
I’m having the same issue and it started right after I installed the PIE ad blocker app. I uninstalled the app but the YouTube issue did not go away. I have switched YouTube Appearance to Light Mode for now.
The same thing happens to me using arch linux (aur brave-bin). Every time I type I have to press ctrl A to highlight the text just to check that everything is typed correctly.
I marked my one reply as a solution just to draw attention to it. Again, this is not anything to do with Brave but is a YouTube issue impacting people on all operating systems and browsers. And many are saying that it seems account specific as they can log into a different account but not have the issue.
This happened to me after the last windows 10 update I did this week…after reboot, YouTube text is now black on black…change to light mode it’s black on white but I can not stand a white screen…this is in the Edge browser…if I log out of my main yt account, on the same Edge browser log into a second yt account the text is white on black in the different account…now that is strange…to me it seems some yt accounts have maybe been compromised in some way… But not sure how. Or Google is trying to force chrome use for yt
For me, this issues just started yesterday (12/14) but not sure when whatever caused it actually took place. I have tried enough variations of environments to come to the following conclusion:
Not browser specific
Not OS specific
Browser extensions or having none irrelevant
Applicable when using Dark Mode (theme)
Applicable to the specific Google Account in use on YouTube (site)
I have multiple accounts and using another Google/YouTube account on the same system and browser, issue didn’t exist.
Since nothing has changed with either Google/YouTube account, it is fair to say this is an issue at their end and not much could be done until they get their sh.t together and fix it.
brave://flags/#enable-force-dark will solve the problem, however, if you use Dark reader it’s not ideal. I am using it as a temporary fix. Credit Kolljak
Edit: The 4th from last option is the one you want. Enabled with selective inversion of non-image elements.
Had the same issue. I remember that I bumped something on my keyboard and I saw a panel pop up about color. I just out of it but then it started. I just fixed it by clicking on the little emoji thing near the comment line. I hope that works for you also
Woah, that worked for me as well - clicking the emoji icon. Very good.
The solution I was using before was less than ideal because built-in dark mode makes everything look flat on YouTube, which is bad. Now I can use YouTube’s dark mode.
It helped me, thanks dude! What’s also interesting is that this solved the problem in other browsers too (although I didn’t change anything in them) and even in phone! And then I returned everything to the default state, and the text still remained normal. Amazing!
