Since the 11/20/2024 update, when I try to type a comment in YouTube, the font is the same color as the background (Dark Mode). I have tried other sites and they are fine. Is this a Brave setting because I can’t find any info on Brave or YouTube. How can this issue be reproduced?
@AJax@B_Dubb_B@289wk I’m not seeing this on my Windows 11. Just shows up like below. I’ve tried a variety of settings and can’t get it to show black on black. It’s always white text on black background or black text on white.
May be good to make sure you share:
Which OS you’re on (like Windows 10, Windows 11, etc)
Which version of Brave you’re on (such as 1.73.91)
Overall you control theme from YouTube. Click your profile icon on the top right of the page, then click on appearance, choose which you want. I tried messing with all of those options. Initially it was set to Use device theme.
I’m running Brave v1.73.91 and Windows 10. Funny thing: Even though everything is supposed to be dark mode, this web page is not in dark mode. Same thing in search engines, results are not showing in dark mode.
Just wanted to report that I have the same issue for the past couple of weeks. The issue is present with shields up or down. Fonts enabled in site settings.
Same here
I saw a couple of posts on the same issue about a year ago, comments in black text on darkmode youtube, on multiple browsers. Didn’t see a solution for it though, seems back then it was a problem on youtube’s end.
No idea if it is the same now.
Just to reiterate: Even though everything is supposed to be dark mode, THIS web page is not in dark mode. Same thing in Bing/Google search engines, results are not showing in dark mode.
@AJax the big question is if you and the others can confirm the statement I have quoted above.
I’m not able to replicate this issue on my devices. And if it is indeed happening on other browsers, especially on Firefox as well, then it would indicate the problem is not related to Brave or even Chromium, but would be something on YouTube or something else at play.
This appears to be a targeted bug by youtube I am experiencing this issue with one of my youtube accounts the one I have used to make the most comments on youtube videos.
If I login with another account the problem goes away the problem also does not persist in the form fields to submit feedback to youtube… problem also persists in all browsers i have tested
this seems to be along the lines of shadow banning… perhaps they have deemed you and your comments guilty of wrongthink I am in the same boat as you for now
Same thing has happened to me in the last few hours. Black on black text in the comments section so you can’t see what your typing. I tried it on Opera browser and text is white so it has to be this browser. I’ve cleared cache and logged back in and it’s still doing it. Interestingly if you reply to somebody else the text is white, it just if you make your own comment its in black
I have this problem around 20 november. Opera browser. I found out that this problem is tied to YOUR YOUTUBE ACCOUNT. I have 3 accounts. 2 additional and one main. So the problem with black text on a black background is present only on the main account. In any browsers and on any PC. On the other two accounts everything is fine. Apparently, this is a problem with YouTube itself.
Same problem just happened on my main account. Other account is fine…could this really be a form of shadow banning? Anyone come up with a solution yet. Yes you can see your replies to comments and I noted if your highlight what you have written when trying to make a comment you can see the text. Strange huh?!
I did all the cache and history clearing stuff, restarted etc…
You all might want to check YouTube-specific sources. At this point, it’s been pretty well confirmed that this issue isn’t related to Brave or even Chromium—it’s happening across all web browsers.
It’s crazy how often people create duplicate posts without looking for existing ones, especially when it comes to issues like this. Almost every time, these duplicate posts start with “Does anyone else…?” It just feels unnecessary when so many answers or similar discussions are already out there.
That said, my rant isn’t directed at you. This is just me venting because I see the same thing happen here on Brave Community. I just wish people would take a little more time to search through topics or related threads before posting. It would save everyone time and effort.
For now, I’d suggest taking a look at some of the links above and possibly reaching out to YouTube directly or connecting with others experiencing the issue.
