I wanted to create a shortcut for a site and be able to open It as a window separate from the browser. It was not under Menu > More Tools where I would find it in chrome. I found a similar option under Save and Share but no open as window option.
It seems to have started with chromium 128.
What is more, a created shortcut no longer appears in about:apps, so cannot be edited/removed, and that means it needs to be precisely located and deleted from .local/share/applications manually (named something like brave-4l12hncrtp632hh4lkhfdafnzcn).
Not only that, but site shortcuts now have a browser logo on them, which sucks big time + after creating a shortcut (at least under Linux), instead of the shortcutted site opening after confirming the creation of the shortcut, we get a file explorer opened in .local/share/applications path.
Yeah, I use this option a lot, and now it disappeared, my existing webapp still work, but I can’t make new ones.
Why did it get removed ?
Is there any other way to do it ?
Will it come back ?
Ok I found a solution :
To bring back the Open as window option, go to
brave://flags
and set Shortcuts not Apps toDisabled
. Once you do this, the option will appear again
