Description of the issue: Majority of cookies do not load, forces re-log ins. For some reason, stuff like themes and the like remain saved. Massive lag spike upon trying to open pages that lasts multiple minutes
Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): It just… happens when logging in and started randomly, I don’t know what to tell you
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!): See topic title.
Expected result: Actually keeping my log-ins
Reproduces how often: It’s happened every day so far.
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu): 1.44.108
Additional Information: I tried asking about this before but no one ever replied to it or even tried asking for more info.
On the ‘offer to save passwords’ bit’ and ‘auto sign-in’ part, I don’t feel comfortable leaving passwords on the computer and, annoying as it is, I’d rather sign in manually to keep control of things. Automating that feels like that could lead to problems.
Everythign else noted is already taken care of though, I just checked and it isn’t set to clear anything upon exit and background aps are set to run even when closed. And I haven’t added any new programs into the mix so I doubt any of them are clearing cookies (and wouldn’t explain the lag spike).
One thing I noticed was when I tried a boot scan (but aborted before it finished since it had taken over 2 hours and there was stuff I needed to do on the computer and couldn’t keep putting off) was that there was an error to do with cookies that came up while Brave was being scanned. Is it possible there’s an error in reading cookies that lead to them not being recognized and having everything logged out? And could this error lead to the aforementioned lag spike?
Just as a note, I’m not saying it’s solved at all. I’m saying that those things you suggested were either not a factor, were already set that way, or would be something I would be more comfortable doing manually.
Please, is it too much to ask for someone to at least say ‘huh, that’s weird’? Give at least some sign that people are at least wiling to discuss things? It’s been nearly 3 months at this point just waiting on an answer from here alone.
Somebody at least say something, I’m closing in on 4 months of having this issue and only one person’s given any attempt to try and even suggest solutions.
Hello there @Typh please accept my apologies for this inconvenience and the delay of a response.
Could you please try opening your main profile in private or guest mode to see if the issue persist? If they do load, try disabling your extensions to see if this is the cause of the issue.
You can open a Guest Window by going to Main menu --> Open Guest window:
On your computer, open Brave.
At the top right, click Menu → More tools → Extensions.
On to the extension you want to remove, click Remove.
For the first, I’m not sure how that would help since the window starts off with no cookies by default and doesn’t save after fully closing the window. The issue has to do with cookies being reset/erased after restarting the browser so I’m having difficulty understanding. The only thing I can think of is that it ends up keeping the dark theme for youtube when I go to the site, even when not logged in. Could that be relevant at all?
Also, I haven’t really used many extensions and hadn’t installed any around the time I started these issues, not for a while. The last one I installed was Return Youtube Dislike, back when it was first implemented and I’m not entirely sure it would affect all sites in general, not just youtube, if it was the cause of things. That and Adblocker are the only two extensions I have.
(Additional note, the option you suggested wasn’t where you said it would be but instead near the menu icon itself, though that might just be a layout difference on my end)
Alright, I went ahead and tried the latter suggestion and… yeah, it doesn’t work. I disabled both active extensions before I went to sleep and shut off the computer and when I turned it back on, although it seemed like it worked since opening up Brave didn’t cause a lag burst like before, when I tried to switch over to, say, Youtube, the lag happened all over again and it took several minutes before it showed it had logged me out again. Just keeping you informed on this stuff.
