[Closed] About:error strobe flashing

Brave bug…

I installed brave on a Win10 PC.
It worked fine.
I applied some updates to the PC.
Rebooted PC.
Now Brave starts with “about:error” in the url bar and the open tab flashes/strobes rapidly.
Starting Brave in Win7 compatibility mode corrects the issue.

Same issue as here : https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/4502

  • Win10 pro, latest consumer build, dev tools enabled, standard settings, nothing fancy.
  • Geforce GTX 750ti

While I am complaining, here are some other issues:

  • Browser launch is slowwwwwwwww. Does anyone test with a standard HD disk rather than a SSD? Just a thought.

  • Browser claims to delete all history, but does not. Example, favicons remain. If you poke around lots of files accumulate. I am guessing this is a code base issue, because Google Chrome make the same false claim. This sucks for privacy, and is a pain for web devs when we want a truly clean system to test on. As a dumb work around for Chrome I wrote a script to delete the entire Google directory, then replace a few things like bookmarks. What a hassle. Please Brave, make it GO!

The issue has been tracked here since months:

I have proposed to clear it too: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/2697#issuecomment-234787693

images that are in the browser do not seem to be caching… like favicons in the bookmarks toolbar and the ones from the back/forward nav buttons

That’s the issue which will be fixed anyway.

Thanks for your feedbacks, appreciated.
