Profiles information is written in the Local State file in the User Data, you can see it inside the browser here brave://local-state/
Then you can search for Profile, and it should be the one that has “info cache” and “default”.
That’s the whole science about it, Local State will have written the information about the profiles, then the browser will read the file and act accordingly.
You can pretty much copy most of the files from Chrome to Brave user data, you can rename it and most files will work without problems since Brave doesn’t really do a lot of modifications to the Chromium information.
This is the default Brave location for the user data:
%localappdata%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\
Or just copy local state file and each profile folder Default, Profile 1, 2 3 etc, and that should be enough, since what really matters is the local state file and the profiles. But moving the whole folder seems easier since you can even do it through CMD in a quick way.
That’s what I would do, since Brave is close to Chrome in many things so Brave will switch some information if necessary, then will disable other if necessary, then will add the Brave specific information, so nothing bad should happen if you do that.
how do I launch a individual profile?
What do you mean? What are you trying to achieve, with your question, I really don’t get anymore what you are trying to do.
If you don’t create multiple profiles Brave will always launch the Default Profile, but also the desktop icon will be converted to reflect that it will always open Default profile. Also, on profile creation you can even set Brave to create a desktop icon for the new profile.
But when you create multiple profiles then you should see a panel on start
Just uncheck the “show on startup” in that case the Profile that will open will depend on the shortcut you open Brave with.
And you use the orb to switch profiles
if you go to brave://settings/manageProfile
you should scroll down and also see the profile creation desktop shortcut
That’s why I said that if you copy the user data from Chrome %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data
to Brave %localappdata%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\
Then you and others should get most of the information that was in the Chrome profile.
Passwords probably won’t transfer and cookies and maybe extensions, so, then you can use brave://settings/importData
to import them, you should be able to see Chrome’s individual profiles with it, but Bookmarks, many settings and History should transfer just fine.
Hi Emi,
I did not realize you could have multiple profiles with Brave.
Lets revise the question then:
How do you create additional profiles?
