Checkbox for "Show on startup" on the "Who's using Brave?" start screen not working, launches when unchecked

Description of the issue:
Unchecking the box for “Show on startup” when the “Who’s using Brave?” window opens does not stop the window from showing on startup on Mint 22.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Install linux Mint 22 on a Dell Pavilion 3490 (don’t seem to have this issue in a virtual machine)
  2. Install Brave browser using steps provided at https://brave.com/linux/
  3. Launch Brave browser and create at least one additional profile
  4. Close the Brave browser
  5. Launch Brave browser and uncheck the “Show at Startup” checkbox
  6. Choose a profile
  7. Close the Brave browser
  8. Launch the Brave browser and “Who’s using Brave?” still appears

Expected result:
“Who’s using Brave?” window doesn’t open when launching Brave when the “Show at startup” button is unchecked.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.70.119 Chromium: 129.0.6668.70 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:

Same issue on Manjaro (Arch). Never had that problem with Chrome.

Looks like we have some other users experiencing this as well as there is already an issue logged on our Github:

I’ve added this report to the thread and tagged a couple people in the issue and internally as well.

thanks, was able to find “show_picker_on_startup” and switch it to “false” for now at “~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser” in ‘Local State’ using the details in the github commnet
