Change Tab Groups button placement or show in the Sidebar/Hamburguer or someting else really great, incredible, love it so much

Hello!

Welcome to yet another feature request related to tab groups!

So yeah… I’d like to request a feature to change the Tab Groups button placement.

Context

I love to use the browser in a minimal state: no expanded vertical tabs and no bookmarks bar being shown. That’s not only me, I know plenty of people that love this way too.

Whenever I do need to check my bookmarks, I always open the sidebar to do it because I think that’s a way better way to handle/navigate through them.

Another feature that me and many people use are the tab groups. It’s an awesome thing and I love that they are saved automatically.

But here’s the thing: I use a minimal layout, many people also do. But whenever I need to check my saved tab groups, the only way I can is through the bookmarks bar. I need to re-enable it just for that.

Suggestion (time to take some awesome notes :writing_hand:)

I have three suggestions. Ready?

First suggestion :1st_place_medal:

Add the option for us to choose between predefined locations.

There’s plenty of room, like:

  1. Show on tab strip
  2. Show on the top bar, right next to the bookmark button (convenient, right?)
  3. Show as an item in the sidebar
  4. Or just keep as is

Or maybe just adding to the hamburger menu just like Chrome already do:

This would save yet another shortcut.

I mean, there’s one for:

  • Collapsing vertical tabs
  • Toggle sidebar
  • Toggle bookmarks bar
  • And many more

This way we could eliminate another shortcut for the final user so he/she can remap to whatever he/she wants, like an extension. This would also make it easier and less frustating.

So, if I want to check the saved Tab Groups, I could just use the shortcut to collapse the vertical tabs or the sidebar, or just click on the icon on the topbar.

Sorry Azeveco, we can’t do that

No problem, amigo. That’s why I have another 2 suggestions, so let’s ke…

…Second suggestion! :2nd_place_medal: (sorry for interrupting your reading lol)

Okay, okay. We can’t choose the location. That’s something deep in the macabre bowels of Chromium.

So think about this: there’s an amazing search tab feature that you open with Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + A, right? RIGHT?

What. If. We. Just. Add. Another. Tab. There. Just. Like. The. Organize. Was. Added. To. Use. Leo’s. Features?

If you weren’t able to read, here’s the clean version: what if we just add another tab there just like the Organize was added to use Leo’s features?

This way we could search through our tab groups with a search bar! Maybe we could add a shortcut to change between these tabs? Or maybe add a shortcut to open the Search Tabs already at the “Tab Group” tab.

WOW! That’s awesome, Azeveco. I think I’m in love with you

Hey, hey… I’m married. But thanks, I love you too.

And, if these two suggestions can’t be done whatsoever, then let’s go to the final, which is also good!

Third, but not last, suggestion. Wait… it’s the last, yes. Third and the last suggestion* :3rd_place_medal:

Maybe, and hear me out on this, instead of doing all this work just to be able to change the placement of the Tab Groups button/list, then just add another shortcut to open just the Tab Groups menu?

Is it crazy? Is it impossible? Is it weird? Am I weird? Who cares.

I know I said before that adding to these other places would free up a shortcut, right? And now here I am, asking for another shortcut, right?

Look at this guy, he’s contradicting himself

Well, my friend. There’s something you need to know: that’s not a new thing. I contradict myself all the time. I also don’t believe in me, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to achieve my biggest life’s dreams.

But that’s not the point. And this is not the best scenario, so we need to work with what we got.

Why am I asking for another shortcut? Imagine this: the saved Tab Groups button are only shown in the bookmarks bar, so my (and many others) flow to open it is:

  1. Press the shortcut to show the bookmarks bar (Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + B)
  2. Take your greasy hand to your mouse and grab it (making it even oily )
  3. Move the cursor to the saved Tab Groups button in the bookmarks bar
  4. Click it
  5. And click again to open the tab group you want

To many steps, wow.

If we had a shortcut to open it, then it could be something like:

  1. Press the shortcut to open the saved Tab Groups
  2. Take your beautiful clean hand to your mouse and grab it (effectively cleaning it :soap:)
  3. Move the cursor to the spot the menu would open
  4. Click to the the tab group you want

Awesome, right?

I know, I know… that’s not the ideal. Agreed. But it’s better than having it hidden inside a thing that you don’t even use.

Conclusion

That any of these would be great, specially a combo between the first and the second.

But if that’s not possible, the third is also great and we would really appreciate. You, Brave code contributors and employees at Brave Mega Awesome Corporation Inc, already do too much for us. Thank you.

Sorry for the looooooooooooooooooooo…

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

…ooooong post.

I leave you with a poem by the greatest dinosaur that ever existed:

I love you
You love me
We’re a happy family
With a great big hug
And a kiss from me to you
Won’t you say you love me too?
