Can't get to my NAS with Brave but can with other browsers. NAS drives mount

Description of the issue:
Starting yesterday (4/1/25), after OS 15.4 update, Brave gives me a Site cannot be Reached message when I try to go to my NAS IP address.

This IP address works with Safari and FireFox.
I can mount all NAS network drives.
I just can’t get to the NAS desktop via Brave Web Browser

Exact URL of the website in question:

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?
I have tried turning off various Shields/Security settings but it’s not clear which would be most appropriate.

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no):
No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome?
I don’t have Chrome on my MacMini. I have Safari, FireFox, Opera and Brave. I can get to the NAS desktop on all those browsers except Brave.

Brave version (check About Brave):
1.77.95

If you disabled Shields entirely do you see an improved experience? What about when trying from a Private Window?

Are you using any extensions on your Brave instance?

Doesn’t work with Private Window either. Extenstions and my settings are exactly the same as what they were when it worked - before the OS 15.4 update.

Screen shows:

This site can’t be reached

The connection was reset.

Try:

ERR_CONNECTION_RESET

What should I change?

Have you tried:

  • ws://localhost

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/33524826/localhost-not-working-in-chrome-127-0-0-1-does-work

Also, Exit / Quit everything and restart the Mac, before trying.

Roger, I appreciate your offer to help. Unfortunately you missed the part where I said I DON’T use Chrome.

I’m not familiar with the vocabulary - like “Edited my hosts file so 127.0.0.1 local host. was present, and save the file.” I will look for Brave’s cache and clear it.

Brave Browser is a Chromium engine’d Internet browser.

In a Brave Browser New Window, if you type in:

  • chrome://net-internals/#dns

The browser will immediately redirect that, to:

  • brave://net-internals/#dns

Take a look at:

".local" hosts don't resolve on Brave - #2 by 289wk

".local" hosts don't resolve on Brave - #6 by voyager99

There is a tip on how to edit the hosts file on a Mac.

Reading the posts in some of the offered links, I found one that gave a path to a Mac OS setting = Privacy and Security, then Local Network. Then turn the Brave Button on to access other devices.

I might have seen that setting earlier, but it didn’t register because the only other browser in the list was FireFox. There was no entry for Safari or Opera (both of which work with the NAS).

I know I didn’t turn that option OFF, so it was either a “gift” action from OS 15.4, or there was something in that update that required more attention to Brave than before.

This issue is resolved for me.
