Briefly describe your issue:
I have a new PC and I can no longer connect to Gemini. I want to collect Brave Rewards on this computer and my potential new phone. Can I create an account at Uphold and connect Uphold to these new devices and still collect via Gemini on the other devices I own that I can still connect to Gemini? What Operating System and Brave version are you using? (Menu --> About Brave)
Win 11 Home 23H2 22631.3958 Brave v1.68.137 Who is your verified custodian? (Uphold/Gemini/bitFlyer)
Currently Gemini would like both Gemini and Uphold (device dependent) Are you in a supported region? Yes
Is it possible to connect an Uphold account with new devices since new connections to Gemini in the US are not being allowed? Is connecting directly to the Brave Wallets still being rolled out? I’m waiting to get a new phone until I can rectify the situation. My phone and the new desktop are my most used devices and I am not collecting anything now since December on the desktop.
Yeah, @brokeautistic, that’s one of the scam bots that get created from time to time. Support lags behind on the weekends as they tend not to be active on the site, so it just comes down to users like us to report those and try to respond. I keep trying to push to get Support to pass me some more admin rights so I can restrict these bot accounts and scammers when they aren’t around, but will have to see what happens.
Anyway, let me answer your questions in follow-up reply
Right, Gemini seems to pretty much be out of the picture. I’m not sure when or if we’ll see it become active again. When I’ve tried to get specific information, usually the Rewards team evades. The primary thing said is they are focusing more of their attention to on chain payments rather than custodial accounts.
Yes, you can still connect to Uphold. If you’re trying to link a device that was linked to Gemini, you may need to reset Rewards first to connect it to Uphold.
Connecting directly to Brave Wallets is still being rolled out gradually. I try to provide updates at PSA: Current and upcoming changes to Rewards and Creators. The latest update indicates that the next batch will be large but will mainly target countries without custodial accounts as an option.
Just to clarify, you haven’t linked your new desktop yet, which is why you’re not collecting anything since December, correct? I want to make sure I’m understanding your situation.
Yes, I have not collected any rewards on this desktop since I set it up in December. I have a laptop, tablet, phone, and the previous desktop connected to Gemini. I’d like to collect rewards on the new devices and just want to know if I set up a new Uphold account, I will continue to get rewards for the old devices sent to my Gemini account and any new devices into the Uphold account. I’ve been waiting for the rollout to on chain, but that’s not happened yet.
I use the new desktop and my phone the most and get lots of ads on both, but obviously don’t bother clicking on the desktop. I’m in the market for a new phone and I really would like to continue to receive rewards without having to reset everything else to go to Uphold.
@brokeautistic Each device is independent, so you can connect some to Uphold and others to Gemini without issues. You can even do this on the same device with different browser profiles. However, each Rewards profile can only link to one payment method—either Uphold or Gemini, not both.
Existing profiles connected to Gemini should still work, but new profiles seem unable to connect due to the integration being taken down. It’s unclear if or when this might change.
Also, just a reminder: clicking on ads doesn’t earn BAT, and Brave suggests only clicking if you’re genuinely interested.
I wish I’d asked this months ago. Reading your previous posts, I just felt the on chain was imminent. That appears to not be the case. Now I have an alternative. Thanks for the clarification!
I think they were aiming for it to be more imminent, but they faced a lot of issues with Solana and had to build things out. It seems like they’re finally getting it under control, but I’m not sure about their pacing.
Unfortunately, Brave is known for taking a while to roll out changes and new features. In the past, they’d often say things were coming “soon,” but it could take a year or more. It even became an inside joke with Soon™, meaning it’s being worked on but might take a while as something always seemed to come up to delay things.
This mainly comes down to Brave operating on a restricted budget with a small development team. I’ve asked why they don’t invest more in speeding up development, but the response is usually that they don’t have the budget or resources to do so.
