Can I turn off the password feature without actually deleting my passwords?

Is it actually possible to turn this off, or do I have to delete my passwords?

I have moved to another password manager outside of Brave and find the popups trying to ‘compete’ with the new manager’s prompts and it’s becoming a nuisance.

I want to stop this, but retain my other personal info autofill, such as addresses, etc.

I’ve searched here for something similar, but can’t find a clear answer. Can anyone kindly clarify? Thank you.

You can disable Brave’s password manager without affecting other autofill features. In the “Autofill and passwords” settings, simply toggle off the “Offer to save passwords” option. This will prevent Brave from saving new passwords while still allowing you to use its autofill for addresses, payment details, and other information.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I’ve done that already, and the dialogue box still pops up when I am asked to enter a password, often overlaying the manager I want to use. It’s most frustrating.

There is a button I can click that deletes all the passwords “and other data”, but I don’t know what “and other data” actually means in this context.

@ursus262 I do not think there is a way to fully disable this feature at this time. I thought that there was an open issue to allow users to do this on our Github but now that I’m looking for it I cannot find it. Will keep digging.

That said, I believe that deleting the passwords held in the browser would do this for you. I would go ahead and try that — if you use the Delete all password manager data option in brave://password-manager/settings, this should do the trick (it should not delete any other data from the browser).

Additionally, I would make sure you have all this information backed up before going through with this just in case. First, check to see that all the passwords you need are already present in your 1Password vault. Then, as an extra security measure, go ahead an export your passwords from the browser (brave://password-manager/settings --> Export passwords).

Now that everything is backed up, go ahead and clear password data and test to see if the issue is resolved.
