Description of the issue:
This issue occurred in the latest release. When opening a side panel extension, the browser crashes. There was no issue before

Steps to Reproduce

Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Install an extension that has a side panel (e.g., Elmo Chat or Page Assist).
  2. Try to open the extension.
  3. The browser crashes

Actual Result

Expected result:

The side panel opens like Leo’s

Reproduces how often:

In the last two days, at first, I thought it was an issue with a specific extension. Then I installed a few similar ones, and they all had the same issue on Brave, but there was no issue on Chrome.

Operating System and Brave Version

Brave Version: 1.68.131 Chromium: 127.0.6533.73 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Operating System: Windows 11 Home 22631.3958

I can confirm this issue with Bookmark Sidebar. It doesn’t crash in Chrome, but does in Brave.

Brave Version: 1.68.134 Chromium: 127.0.6533.88 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Operating System: Windows 11 Home 22631.3880

Edit: Briefly, I was able to get that extension to work normally in another Brave profile. Unfortunately, when I had a window from each profile open, I tried using the extension from the affected profile. Since then, no matter how many times I reinstall the extension in the other profile, it crashes every time I attempt to use it.

Edit 2: As I discovered in this GitHub issue thread, re-adding Brave Talk and Brave Wallet to the sidebar allows the extension to work as expected.

Can you both please go to brave://crashes and submit your crash reports as well as share the crash report IDs with me here?

Thank you

Here are the first two crash reports I submitted around 12:11 PM EDT:

I submitted more reports from 12:56 PM to 1:34 PM from crashes that occurred while I was figuring out how to not cause a crash. Here are those IDs:

Here’s what I got based on the above GitHub thread: If you remove Brave Wallet and Talk from the sidebar, the side panel extension crashes :slightly_frowning_face: . I added it back, and now the side panel is working fine for the extension

@n4ze3m,
I’m not having any issues opening the sidebar with Wallet/Talk removed. Are you opening the sidebar by clicking it normally or are you using the keyboard shortcut? Additionally, can you confirm that if you do not have any 3rd party sidebar extensions enabled that this issue still occurs?

Yes, I tried using a third-party Chrome extension. Here is a screen recording where I attempted to open the side panel from the extension icon with and without the wallet in the sidebar

So with Talk/Wallet options removed from sidebar, the extension side panel works every time?

Openning sidepanel crash without Wallet/Talk in sidebar

We’ve got an issue opened for this here:
