BUG ALERT! I turned off the automatic rewards, but it turns itself on for any new website visited

I turned off the automatic rewards, but it turns itself on for any new website visited. I really do not like this feature at all. The user should just click a button of some kind, and give some BAT at a website of his/her choosing. This automatic function has no use to me, and it is a real bother, in an extremely busy day, to keep checking my wallet, and turning off the unwanted feature. I have it turned off in settings, but it keeps on giving me notices in the wallet, and I need to switch off auto-contribute again and again!

Which version is this happening? Could you list the exact steps that you did to see this Bug? Also please use the template to fill out details so that it makes it easy to troubleshoot the issues

OK. I am not sure what template you referred to. Anyway, the Brave versions on my laptop are 71.0.58.21 and 0.25.304.

I also have a problem when I click on shortcuts/links to websites, because they appear in a new browser window, even when Brave has already been opened for other sites. Additionally, instead of one new Browser window (with the site I want to see), there is
an extra Browser window (which shows a site that I looked at earlier). I then have 2 or 3 Brave browsers opened at once, and I would prefer to just just have one Brave browser open (with separate tabs for each website).

Sincerely,

Aaron

Here is a screenshot of an unwanted auto-contribute, even though this function has been turned off. It is an important bug, because it risks losing BAT, including BAT which users have paid for…

Sorry for delay.

Just to be sure have you disabled auto-contribute in brave://rewards for that site? And does that enable automatically when you visit the site again?

If you visit a site and then disable auto-contribute from BR panel, does it still show up in auto-contribute list on brave://rewards? or vice-versa?

Unfortunately this is a known behaviour.

Thank you for the reply. Regarding the auto-contribute, I am not sure about the list which you mention.

From the wallet, I click on Rewards settings, and then I see that auto-contribute is off. The tips section under it is disabled, and I don’t see a list of BAT receivers there (also I have not yet made such a list). When I turn off the auto-contribute for a new site, it stays off later, when I revisit that site. The problems are: 1. That it is a waste of time to check the wallet and switch off auto-contribute each time a visit a new site, and 2. I get a message that the amount in my wallet is too low to contribute to the site, which makes me think that, if I put more BAT in my wallet, the auto-contribute will start to give it to sites to which I don’t want to contribute. The easier thing to do would be to just have a easy button to click on when you want to contribute BAT to a site: click, enter the amount of BAT to donate (and maybe check a box for repeated/automatic donations, for those who want to give a particular site a donation each time they visit). This way, users get an easy, fast way to give tips/donations, like with traditional coins or paper money. Just reach into your virtual pocket, and give, when you want to do this!

Thanks for the details.

This is the tipping concept that is implemented already but doesn’t have the option of choosing amount to tip

Coming back to the issue in hand, as per screenshot you can see Attention is 0% which means it won’t send any BAT to that publisher. It might be a little confusing because Include in Auto-Contribute is enabled even though you have it disabled in rewards-settings. As long as the site doesn’t get listed in auto-contribution list and doesn’t show a Attention % value that particular site wont get any BAT. I’ve also logged an issue for the UI to be updated. You can track the issue here

That sounds very good. I noticed the 0%, but it was a bit hard to tell for sure if that was the result of the website not being registered and verified to receive BAT contributions. In other words, with the “include in auto-contribute” turned on, it looked like the thing that was preventing the contribution was the fact that the website was not registered to receive it (making me wonder what would happen when I visited sites which were registered to receive BAT, and whether they might receive contributions which were not intended by me). Have a pleasant day!
