Browser won't save changes made to a search engine if it's set as default

Description of the issue:
Subj. There isn’t much else to add.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Go to the search engine settings, edit the URL, then click save.
  2. Restart the browser.
  3. Observe the URL being reverted to the original state.

Expected result:
The URL should remain the way you’ve saved it.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Version 1.78.102 Chromium: 136.0.7103.113 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
Short video, documenting the process:

Hmmm interesting. Not seeing this issue on my end – URL stays the same after relaunch, using Win11 with latest Brave build:

You’re not clearing your browsing data on browser exit or anything are you?

No, of course not. I do have the ‘continue running background apps’ option disabled, but I already tried it both ways and it made no difference.
Either way if it works fine on your end I guess I should try resetting all settings and see how it goes. I’ll report back when I will have tried it.

You can also try adding a fresh browser profile and testing the behavior there to see if you can reproduce it in the new profile.

Right, resetting the browser settings would also wipe cookies so I decided against it. I did try a few things with a fresh browser profile and managed to find the cause of the issue, I think. It depends whether or not the search engine in question is set as the default search engine. As long as it is, any changes made to it after the fact will rollback upon restart.
