Description of the issue: As the title suggest, I am stuck in a really old version of the browser at the moment, and I get pop ups that my browser is behind. If I go to the settings to search for an update it says that something went wrong. I tried redownloading, deleting cookies, etc.. I am out of ideas
Steps to Reproduce:
I don’t know, I just used it and woke up that it is not updating.
Expected result: To be able to at least manually update/.
Reproduces how often:
Even after reinstalling, deleting cookies, following the not updating issue posted, even though I got the browser from the official website and not github.
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
IF you are running an anti-virus and/or Internet security application, you may want to disable it - so it does not interfere with the installation of BB. That includes any such extensions installed on other applications.
IF / WHEN that fails, careful study of the Windows Registry and where some BB entries may need to be removed, may be in order.
You may also need to find and delete the “Local State” file ← IIRC, it is in the “User Data” folder. IF you delete that file, you will discover that some BB settings need your review and adjustment.
Thank you
This has finally updated my BB version, but currently, from what I have seen, most of the websites ads seem to bypass the shield, and I don’t mean just youtube, feels like the ad blocker stopped working completely. If you have any ideas on what I could check for this as well it would be a great help. Thank you!
Other areas of interest, for study and becoming familiar with: brave://chrome-urls/#internals
Specifically:
brave://version
brave://profile-internals/
brave://local-state/
brave://prefs-internals/
brave://components/
Examine the components; one or more might not be updating.
I copy the entire contents of the Local State (local-state), and then paste into a text file that I save as - using a file name that helps me to store the text files in chronological order - example: 20250603-2014_BB_Local_State.txt (yyyymmdd-hhmm ← year month day - hours minutes). I use a text editor to compare older vs newer files. Same procedure for Preferences (prefs-internals).
So, after some activity, when a BB issue arises, I may be able to discover what changed; but, should not have changed. Or, what should have changed; but did not change.
