Browser hangs intermittently after windows update

Description of the issue: After the win11 update a month ago the browser would lock up on opening, the whole UI turns grey and windows asks if I want to wait for the process or kill it.

Everything in the browser starts working normally, but are not interactable.

The browser takes from 2 to 15 minutes to stabilize on the currently open window and lets me interact with it for a few seconds before locking up again, switching tabs or windows lock up the browser again and I need to wait again.

These freezes are accompanied by “Desktop Window Manager” stressing the GPU to 50-90% load.

Clearing the appdata folder eliminates the problem but also gets rid of the tabs I need for my workflow.

Is there a way to get the open pages from a session to move them to a new session without using the browser, or to check the appdata for malformed data?

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Have many tabs open.
  2. Let windows update itself.
  3. Open brave.

Expected result: Browser opens itself and loads the last tabs I had open and starts working normally like it did before the update.

Brave Version( check About Brave): Can not open the browser

@Kakko thanks for reporting, can you confirm your current Brave version?

version 1.76.81 Chromium 134.0.6998.166

Thanks @Kakko, can you share a screen-grab video of this happening? What extensions do you have enabled? Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration?
