Browser constantly reopens to private tab and closes out all other previously open tabs

Maybe there’s been a post about this that’s resolved the issue already, but every time I close Brave and reopen it, it will open up on a private tab instead of the regular ones, and will close any previous private or non-private tabs that were opened before closing the app. I’m not sure what to do. This is set as my default browser, I don’t think I have any setting on or off that’s causing this, and it loses any and all progress I had before. Help would be appreciated.

@dollsandbats if it’s opening in private then it sounds like you told it to open in private only.

If you go to Brave’s settings → shields & privacy and then scroll down, do you see the option Private Browsing Only? Do you have it enabled?

-NOTE-

Just to be clear, the purpose of private browsing is to initially have a browsing session with no cookies. Then when you exit the browsing session (close your browser), it erases all of your History and Cookies. It’s supposed to act like you never had been on at all.

So yes, when you close and then open, nothing would be there. This is the purpose of private tabs. That’s why I’m making my initial assumption that perhaps you have it enabled to always be in private browsing.

Hi, thank you for your response. This feature is shut off on my end. I saw a similar post and tried a few things to get rid of it, such as turning Private Browsing Only on and off, checking for updates, etc etc. There is one instance where I suddenly got all of my tabs back that had been closed before, but this has only been one case.

@dollsandbats guess I’m just trying to think it through.

If you were in private and didn’t fully close Brave but had just swapped apps or something, then when you returned to Brave it would be in your private window. Goint to the tab switcher and hitting Private would disable it and switch back to your normal session with whatever tabs you have open.

Based on your earlier explanation, it doesn’t sound like this is what’s happening on a regular basis. If it was just a matter of things being closed, I might ask if settings for Shred were on in Shields or anything.

Nothing is coming to the top of my mind based on how it’s explained. Not sure if you might be able to record it happening or anything, which might give some clues.

Btw, do a favor and provide some of the details we’re missing from where you had deleted the template. I’ll paste the entire template below but primary thing is knowing which version of iOS you’re on and the specific version of Brave you’re using. Obviously you provided a description in your original post.
