Brave using a lot of RAM/CPU power causing fan to run high

Firefox doesn’t block ads (including YouTube) and other trackers though.

I use Facebook a lot less than I used to, but I’m an author and run a page on there, and it’s otherwise been my way of staying connected with all the people I know. I have, however, seen threads similar to mine dating back to earlier last year, but this problem only started occurring for me some time around December last year. I have seen across searches, however, that many others seem to have been experiencing the same problem across the past year in one way or another. I agree that it seems like something has been changed in Brave.

Hi, I’ve been using Brave Beta for two days now and it appears to be silent while Facebook is up. Shall I continue monitoring this for a few more days? As it’s currently working for me, I’m content to carry on using it for now.

I’m glad to hear it’s working for you. Can you try launching the stable build and check to see by chance if the issue still occurs there?

It takes 20 seconds to add adblock to it via google - If you didn’t know, now you know. I see you found a working Brave version now. That’s good

I haven’t actually. For 2-3 days it was silent, now even the Beta is kicking off with it. I thought Brave blocked ads anyway, so didn’t think I needed one on it. Is it a free one?

The stable build? I’ve been using the Beta version for a few days. For 2-3 days it was pretty silent with Facebook up, now unfortunately it seems to be experiencing the same problem.

@Melissa4886 and clearing cache/site data doesn’t make any difference here? Also, can you please share a screenshot of the browser’s task manager when this issue occurs? You can open this by right-clicking on the tab strip (next to a tab):

Or by launching Brave and going to Menu --> More tools --> Task manager. Might be helpful for you to organize the processes by memory footprint and/or CPU usage as well.

I cleared the cache/browsing data, and it did it for a while but has been quiet for a bit (is it possible to clear the data from a single site then? And without logging out?) I only started using the Beta build for Brave only a few days ago though. Should it really clog up that fast? I don’t usually have to do that very often at all.

I’ll keep an eye on it and take a screenshot or two if/when it happens next time. In the browser task manager, when it spikes and the fan starts going, Facebook alone seems to use upwards of 70% CPU (just to give an idea). It went up to 94% for several seconds a while ago.

Apologies for the deletions there. I was trying to reply directly to you and messed up.

Yes – click the “tune” icon to the left of the URL in the address bar (while on Facebook.com), then Site settings --> Delete data. Unfortunately you will have to log back into the site each time.

No it definitely shouldn’t but I’m trying to determine if built-up cache is the cause of the issue in general.

I’ve cleared the site data and logged back in. I’ll see how long it takes for it to do it again and let you know. For now, here’s the screenshot from the task manager you asked for.

No sorry, I meant to Firefox - Because you said you use Brave because of the ad blocking. So to clarify, I downloaded Firefox in 1 minute then used it to google “adblock firefox” and installed that in a further 20 seconds.
