EDIT:

After further investigation, I arrived to a different post from this same forum (Brave stopped blocking ads - #13 by alankillie) that explains the issue and how to solve it.

It turns out that, for some reason, certain components from brave://components tried to update automatically but their folders (located in\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data) were asking for Administrator privileges. After opening those folders with the file explorer and manually granting them the privileges, I was able to update the failed components (EasyList Cookie and Brave Ad Block Updater).

I really don’t know what could even cause such an issue, this has never happened to me in the past and I hope it doesn’t happen to me again, because a browser should never require such an intrincate chain of actions to fix…

Glad to hear resolved for you. And yeah, it’s tricky to find out why only a small handful of people have this issue. It must be something within OS settings or something where it wasn’t given admin permissions when installed or updated.

Anyway, I’ll mark this as solved. I’d put your own edit as solution, but has to be something marked other than original post.
