Brave Search blows up on `-ai` search exclusion

I can’t stand AI hype or content. I try to filter out AI related entries from results by applying the documented negation syntax:

-ai

However, instead of respecting the preference to exclude AI related results, Brave then doubles down and shows even more AI results than before.

Do you have the Answer with AI option toggled “off” in the Search site settings?

Nah, I’m not talking about Leo generated result DOM elements. I’m talking about for example AI artwork, AI news stories, various slop results. The ordinary search form leans into the negated term

@n4jm4 thanks for clarifying. I’ve asked the Search team about this – my assumption is that this has something to do with how the query is run with such a short (that is, in length) exclusion. Will reply back here when I have more information.
