Description of the issue:
When I’m trying to log into my AWS account through a root user, it asks me to enter the email and password which I have previously saved but it will only prompt the email/password on the first page that only has an email field and does not prompt me any password on the second page of a password field. I will have to go to manage my password, search AWS keywords and manually reveal the password (which requires me to enter a system password on mac) every time, which is troublesome. I also cannot force save/prompt on the second password page
How can this issue be reproduced?
First you need to have an AWS account, assume some of you do as there are people in that field
Enter choose root user, enter your email, here the saved email/password will be prompted
Do the captcha check (if required)
Enter the password, here is where the problem happens and the browser will not prompt me the password
Expected result:
The browser prompts me different passwords just like before in the email section
Brave Version( check About Brave ):
Version 1.30.89 Chromium: 94.0.4606.81 (Official Build) (arm64)
Additional Information:
MacOS Big Sur 11.6 (20G165), M1 iMac
On the password page, I can see a key icon at the right side of the Omnibox (on the left side of the brave shield icon) and if clicked, it will show me the password saved for this page. However, I cannot choose, copy, or do anything to the password such that I can use them for login. I can only delete, click OK (which closes the password box) or go into manage my password and repeat the process stated above to manually get the password, not ideal.
Posted by @Fufski at Brave not save and prompt to fill password on AWS page, I have the same problem! Basically their captcha step screws things up, and it’s really annoying for me. On other 2 step authentications I can at least select a password for any account from a dropdown.
I’m not seeing this issue on my end. First can you please update your browser to the latest build (1.36.119 at the time of writing this) and see if this resolves the issue?
Also, does the behavior change if you toggle the Auto sign-in option in Settings --> Autofill ?
thanks for looking into this and your reply. I’m always on the latest stable (auto updating is on, right now its version 1.36.117 Chromium: 99.0.4844.74 (Official Build) (x86_64), but the issue exists forever, so I doubt downloading the nightly will fix it). Auto sign-in is on, I tried to toggle it off, but the results are the same: https://imgur.com/a/LsUGLnO
I can see the key icon in the address bar and I can select the email (the credentials are available and stored in Brave), but I cannot select the saved password when it asks me for the password, because there is a captcha step in between that will confuse Brave. Did you check and try to reproduce on console.aws.amazon.com?
Please examine the imgur Link above which illustrates the issue.
@martinbraun,
Is it only AWS that has this issue? On your OS, can you go to System Preferences —> Keychain access --> Login and check to see if Brave safe storage is listed here?
Very strange — should certainly work as it does for me. If you have any extensions installed it may be worth testing the behavior after disabling them to see if there is some interaction causing this.
You may also try clearing the cache/data for AWS (via lock icon in the address bar) and see if this helps. In the meantime I will see if I can find a way to reproduce at all.
Looking for a solution to the never prompted to save issue for the Momentum extension. This seems to be an ongoing issue as I can find questions going back to 2019 asking for support across a variety of sites.
Sorry for the late reply, I got time to investigate. It’s weird. On an incognito window it would always prompt me the password picker on the password field. So, I went ahead, disabled all extensions in my normal setting. Then I entered the dev tools on https://console.aws.amazon.com/, clicked on Application tab and “Clear site data”. So, local storage and cookies should be gone. Reload, yet it still would not prompt me.
After trying a while I realized that in around 1 of 10 times this would actually work, but in 9 of 10 times it would not.
How could this be explained or what could I try else? I’m confused.
