Brave not allowing me to download files it deems dangerous (2)

No way to download files

without getting the error reported in 2024 in another post with the same thread title.

After @Mattches answer, the thread was closed without a solution …

I checked as per that thread:

  • Everything is disabled as security in my Brave.
  • Each download is blocked silently. No warning received.
  • I have to flag OK …one by one the downloads to finish this PC Install&Config!!!

NOTE:
The issue started because I’m on a new W10 PC “T24” installed from fresh this week. The other W10 PC “Q6” was my MainPC and crashed on Saturday … so I can’t even copy all Programs settings* :sad_but_relieved_face:

  • I mean >>> For Brave as for the other 87 programs that cover my Workplace.

( I have the most important program’s settings BKP saved in the cloud, but not all :see_no_evil_monkey: )

@AlainCh2 can you confirm that with Safe Browsing enabled downloads still fail in this way?

Thanks Mattches…

Switched to Safe

Started downloading, and download locked

This is what happens

Returned to No Protection

( no idea why but it’s the same as previous Thread )

Are you using a download manager extension of some kind? In the first screenshot you shared it appears to be something other than the default download manager built into the browser.

If so, can you please try disabling that and testing to see if this solves the issue? Testing on my end, when I try to download from that site, I also see that the download is blocked, but I’m offered the option to download it anyway:

Forgot to add that one in the previous post.

Now answering your question

D+ disabled

The Download lists it as Blocked [same as D+] but allows me to unblock directly.

Not much of a difference:
Brave Block what it wants even when set not to block :frowning:

It does not importance if I have to run behind him to allow all my downloads.

( I feel stupid as if I don’t know what I’m doing, and to be told not to do that makes things worse, because I have to remedy MY MISTAKES !!)

The browser is warning you that you are downloading content to your system from an insecure website. However, it is not preventing you from downloading it. This is a safety feature implemented in most modern browsers and it’s worth noting that this download gets blocked in all other chromium based browsers I’ve tested.

If you want to download files from that site, simply click the Keep option that appears in the download manager. Or, click the > arrow and select Download insecure file.

Thanks.

There is a “BUT”.

'Till Saturday, I had NEVER received that notification, on my previous PC “Purple”.

Maybe I’ve found a way to block that in 2020, but I’m not sure because I didn’t write anything on this forum about it, maybe because I didn’t think of it as a diffuse issue.

But as you can see, when I find a solution to a posted issue, I usually write a tutorial about what kind of “solving solutions” users of that product may try, to avoid it.

I’ve also written a solution for Brave here:

If you think BRAVE works as expected …

… when you tell it “not to block downloads” and it keeps blocks ON, regardless of the User’s wantings, that’s a Brave Team issue, not mine.

If I discover the solution I’ve implemented on the Purple PC, I will post a tutorial with the same Title as this post.
[but so far I cannot check anymore that on that machine]

Just to Add a little more info:

Reputation based Control is and was turned OFF

No way Brave can disregard the User’s instructions

@AlainCh2 three questions on things to have you check.

  1. In brave://flags, have you toggled Insecure origins treated as secure ?

  2. just to check, what are your Shields settings like? In particular, the HTTPS setting.

  3. Also in some research I found some people saying it can only be done if you manually exempt websites in places like brave://settings/content/insecureContent. Would adding any particular website like the one you’re trying to download from result in it going with no issues?

very Short answer:
Yes
No
No.

@Mattches tagging so not lost in shuffle, if you have any further thoughts.

I downloaded without issues on another >non HTTPS< site.

Still, I have to understand the logics in that protection…
