Brave keeps resetting my Leo Premium model to Mixtral

I just recently subscribed to Leo Premium. When trying to change the default model to Claude 3.5, it keeps changing back to Mixtral in both Brave on iOS and MacOS. Might I be doing something wrong here, or are others having the same issue?

FWIW, I’m also a premium search subscriber if that makes any difference.

In searching the community, I seem to have found a thread where this happened, but was defaulting to a different model. The issue was fixed when the version of Brave that contained the Mixtral model was released. (Leo keeps selecting Claude despite my settings)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/insights.

I have the same two subscriptions, and the same exact issue but on Linux. I did not even upgrade Brave and it was working fine (well with quite a few network errors) for weeks and today it started doing this. I tried resetting Brave data (though that does not log me out from premium for whatever reason). It keeps selecting Mixtral in the settings and in new tabs.

I upgraded to the latest Brave minor version 123 from 121 and it still keeps reverting to Mixtral in the settings.

I’ve seen a couple of reports of this recently — must be a regressions of some kind. Letting the team know now.

Additionally, can anyone confirm for me exactly when the model resets? That is, does the model revert from the default model selected after a browser restart? Or just when a new tab is opened? Or some other instance?

The model selector in the Brave settings for Leo just doesn’t work. I can select another one but simply closing the settings and reopening them shows Mixtral as the selected one again. New tabs default to Mixtral (since that’s what the settings say). Changing it inside the conversation works for that tab I believe until I close the tab and reopen it but I will try to confirm that tomorrow.

Mind you: I had version 121 since it came out and it was working fine but today it broke on two synced computers and they behave exactly the same way now. So whatever regression this is may be server side, or related to sync. I’ll try to experiment by trying to change settings while having the computer offline tomorrow so that it doesn’t sync.

Upgrading to Version 1.73.89 Chromium: 131.0.6778.69 (Official Build) (arm64) seems to have fixed the issue for me on MacOS.

Prior to that, @Tritonio’s description above matched my experience exactly.

Still seeing the issue in iOS even after upgrading to Brave version 1.71.

I upgraded to the same version after seeing your message and this fixed the issue for me too. I had to go one last time in settings and set it to Sonnet but now all tabs use Sonnet.

But it seems I have a much bigger issue with this version. The usual network errors that I always had (they were always there) started not being retryable. Usually when I pressed the retry button it would disappear and pop back up after a second or five. Until eventually after multiple tries it worked. But now clicking the button does nothing. I don’t know if it’s doing something in the background but it doesn’t seem so and I tried pressing it many times and still got no answer from Leo. It just stays there saying “Network error”. I’ll post this on the other thread for the network errors too.

EDIT: Reverting to 1.71.123 does not re-break the settings.

Despite what I wrote in the EDIT in my last message, today and after a restart, version 1.71.123 is again switching back to Mixtral the global settings (and the any new tabs follow that setting).

I’d like to open an issue for this but just to ensure it persists for everyone, can you all please ensure you update to the latest build (1.73.91 at the time of writing this) and confirm that the issue is still present?

Thank you

For me:

  • MacOS, Brave 1.73.91 - The issue is resolved.
  • iOS, Brave 1.71 - The issue persists. I’m unable to change the default model. It always resets to Mixtral.

@sixsixty,
I believe the iOS issue will get fixed with the next browser update.

1.73.97 fixes it for me on Linux. Cheers!
