Description of the issue:
I recently started to use Brave importing history and extensions from Chrome. Brave Keeps logging me out of the accounts that I logged in 2 to 3 times a week. I get logged out of Gmail, Notion, LinkedIn, Amazon, ProtonMail and have to relogin to a few times a week.
I have disabled most settings. You can see screenshots of my settings in this link
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
I get logged out of all accounts 2 to 3 times a week
Expected result:
I expect to stay logged in
Reproduces how often:
2 to 3 times a week
Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
OS: Windows 11
Brave Version 1.75.175
I have done everything in that thread. I dont have any Avast or CC Cleaner installed. Please refer to the screenshots of my settings in this link: https://ibb.co/3mQs1dg7
Does this happen to all sites or only some? I know you listed Gmail, Amazon, etc. But the big question is whether some sites, like perhaps this one, keep you logged in. The thing to focus here is if whatever is happening if impacting “all” cookies for all websites or if the logouts are perhaps a bit more selective, even if they are the sites you use more often.
I see in your last link that you provided a screenshot of a lot of your settings. The Shields settings was your global. If you go to the websites you have issues and click on the Shields lion, does that show settings any differently? (The lion button is site specific)
To be clear, you’re saying this happens random? You haven’t been able to replicate easily? Such as it’s not logging you out just be closing or restarting Brave or anything, right?
Have you tried disabling all of your extensions to see if it happens again that way?
In testing, if you wouldn’t mind, could you create a new profile and test on it? Go to the hamburger menu → More Tools → Add New Profile. Choose a name for it and create. This will create an additional profile with most of your settings to default and with no extensions instaled. Use it just as is without adding any extensions or changing settings. See if it also experiences the same issue of getting logged out.
No need to disable so much. In fact, I’d enable some again. Guess I’ll return the favor of screenshots on settings:
Just wanted to point out in terms of extensions, it’s generally best not to have any.
The reason why I have ibotta is that it can keep Brave running in the background. This is helpful when casting my screen to my Chromecast/TV. If I don’t have ibotta installed, then when I close the last open window, then it cancels the session and stops casting. But with ibotta installed and Brave running in the background, it keeps casting even when I close Brave. So it can be helpful for times I accidentally close the last window or if wanting to focus on other things on my device.
Anyway, extensions tend to be the biggest culprit for issues people encounter. So often it’s a good starting point, whether it be looking through their settings in detail or just disabling/removing to see if issues resolve.
It happens to all sites. I have to login to everything from scratch. Notion, Amazon, Linkedin Gmail. Only thing that stays logged in extensions like Grammarly and Bitwarden
Shields stay disabled (Lion Icon) when I visit the website.
Yes. I am unable to replicate it easily by closing or restarting Brave. It happens 2 to 3 times a week.
I have only kept the essential extensions. I have a few profiles with different extensions and it is the same thing. Only common extensions are Bitwarden and Grammarly.
I will create a new profile and report back. I anticipate a few days.
My question on extensions is if it is a problem in Brave, it should have been a problem on Chrome as well no? I have not used Chrome in the last 3 weeks (at least not as much) and I am still logged in everywhere there. But in Brave I have already logged into all my accounts like 10 times already.
Not necessarily. Because Brave has things like Shields and other deviations, there can sometimes be some weird incompatibility issues. And it can be of things that we don’t always think of. Like a few years ago a person had some weird issue that we eventually tracked back to a Dungeons & Dragons dice roller extension they had.
Keep in mind that in mentioning, these were just two examples. It can be anything clearing data. Like a long time ago I kept having issues where Brave was closing whenever I launched a game of mine and I thought it was crashing. Ends up it was Razer Cortex. What I didn’t realize was that in the settings, it defaulted to closing Brave and all to “optimize” things for the game. But lot of other things too, such as you see below.
In sharing this, just trying to show that there can be a lot of different types of programs that can cause problems. Many of these know to ignore things like Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari as they are older and more well known. But browsers like Brave don’t always get added to exemptions and might get cleared. Such as on this one they had Brave enabled by default. (Not sure if they improved on that in recent years)
So all of that said, I’d try to check any antivirus, performance, or any other programs you have on your device. And perhaps when you see that you are logged out, try to check if there’s any particular day that it’s happening or if it might relate to when you had just done some particular task, such as gaming or doing an antivirus scan.
