Brave isn‘t downloading Videos to the playlists anymore properly

Lately, if I close all Brave Browser (iOS) windows, clear cookies and cache, have Brave Shields Advanced Controls set to:

  • Trackers & Ads Blocking: Aggressive
  • Block Scripts: Disabled
  • Block Fingerprinting: Enabled

. . . and have been playing some audio at some websites. . .

And I quit Brave Browser, and Power OFF (but not “hard” shut down) the iPhone . . .

Then after starting the iPhone, that audio will play automatically - without launching Brave Browser.

The script for the audio, apparently “lives” somewhere in the iPhone’s memory.

In order to stop that audio, I have to use Brave Browser to revisit the webpage where I first encountered that audio - and THERE, I have to ENABLE the Block Scripts switch, in order to stop the ghost of the “living” audio.

as I was writing until I tapped the wrong button . . .

And THERE, I have to ENABLE the Block Scripts switch, in order to stop the ghost of the “living” audio.

This is a different issue. You should create a new ticket for that.

Same here. iOS 17 , iPhone 12 mini, brave doesn’t let me add new items to the playlist error comes up:

I have the same problem in iOS v 18.0.1 & Brave v 1.69.2 (172) as well. Looks like this issue is not reflected in the recent update of iPadOS. It just works fine in iPad.

Any update to this? It still isn’t working for me. I can add to the playlist and sometimes I’ll get the “Sorry couldn’t load this source” error or it will be there but will not download offline.

@Anya can you confirm your Brave and iOS versions?

Sure! iOS 17.6.1 (iPhone 11) and Brave 1.69.2

I got it somehow working. First, I had 3 videos on my playlist and every time that i tried to add to playlist, I have the error message: “Sorry there was a problem loading the source!” but looking for answers I’ve tried the private method and works!
Somehow the normal tabs works too but i can’t download for offline play.
Now this is how I got playlist working again:

  1. Go to settings> playlist and turn off automatic download
  2. Open a private tab and look for youtube video and add to playlist
  3. Check if you can watch the video and download the video. If you can’t download the video, don’t worry!
  4. Go to normal tabs, add another youtube video again to playlist and check if you can watch the video. Again if you can’t download the video with the swipe menu or long press menu go to the next step.
  5. Go to setting> playlist and turn on automatic download only wifi.
  6. Close and reopen the app, go to the playlist and automatic start to download the video that you added.

Now, I can add any video without problems and play it offline too!

I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iOS 18.1 beta 6 and brave 1.69.2 (172)

Same issue here. On iphone 11 and ipad 8gen both ios 18.
But it rarely works. on small videos. because it starts and then fails most of the time. sometimes it failes instantly. same error message.
Hope this gets fixed

Hello Everyone,

Not pressure anyone to solve the issue quickly…but I am also facing the same issue after updating the browser to 1.69.2 and iOS 18.0.1.

Might be due to the fact that I am living in EU region…

With Regards,
John

You can add videos in private mode , I don’t think it’s a regional thing

Same issue with the latest version of iOS and Brave.

@theLost

My sequence of replies, above:

Brave isn‘t downloading Videos to the playlists anymore properly - #22 by 289wk

and the next . . .

I consider, that Brave Browser iOS is holding on to downloaded “tasks” - that somehow linger: scripts that should not remain, and some scripts are piling up (including, their running in the background).

In your case, where you have a lot of data traffic:

Excessive Cellular Data Use - #5 by theLost

I would consider that the bug I found and mentioned above, might be a contributing factor.

You might use the iOS App Privacy Report, in order to see what un-expected traffic is occuring.

The Brave Community webpage for your issue, is closed - thus, my writing, here.
