Brave injects promotions into browser history

bug

#1

Step 1: Turn off all Search bar options except for ‘Show history matches’

Step 2: Clear all browsing data and use the red dropdown header to restart the browser

Step 3: Type the character t into the url bar

I receive promotional suggestions related to Twitter, Inc., Apple, Inc., and Brave Software Inc. The browser purports to be displaying ‘history matches’ but surreptitiously suggests self-promotional sites (and pages) which are not in my history, some of which I have never visited in my life. This bug makes the Brave browser deceptive and confusing for anyone trying to use history suggestions. Please address this issue. Thank you for your time.

This is going to be fixed in the next couple of build

#3

Note that restarting the browser does not stop the injection into the ‘history matches’ the ‘topSites’ defined here:

Even when ‘Show top site suggestions’ is disabled.
