Brave doesn't appear in the Linux Mint repository. What do I do?

What it says on the label. I am trying to install Brave under Linux Mint 20.3, but it’s not available. Unless I am too clueless to recognize it, the Linux installation page doesn’t tell me how to proceed. Guidance, please?

@Owen5819 ,

Many thanks for your help. Unfortunately, the result is the following:

E: Unable to locate package brave-browser

After failing with the install-page instructions, I googled the issue, thinking that the page might be outdated already. Found alternative instructions, similar but not identical. Got the same result.

No doubt I should have mentioned that the first time. Sorry.

@Owen5819 ,

You are OK. There is a web page at GitHub, for you to bookmark:

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_DESKTOP.md

The stable releases – their version numbers – appear in large font size. Some details (release notes) are also displayed.

Click on the latest (large font size) version number.

Scroll down to find the installation package “suitable for your device’s architecture.”

Possibly for you, that is

“brave-browser_1.36.112_amd64.deb”

Even as a noob who hasn’t qualified for “green” yet, I should be able to do that. Very much appreciated.

Oops. I tried brave-browser_1.36.112_amd64.deb. Tried to open it with System Handler. Got this message: Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: brave keyring. Saved the file to the desktop pending further illumination.

Thanks again for your help. If you can suggest a resource like “This Stuff for Dummies,” that also would be very welcome.

@Owen5819 ,

Search the Brave Community.

Found:

Can not install brave browser on mint

Note that @JimB1 inquired, if the following instructions are being used:

JimB1’s inquiry:

Brave on Mint 20.2 install problem - #2 by JimB1

Notice that @chh_68 is also new (Dec. 2021) to Linux:

Brave on Mint 20.2 install problem - #3 by chh_68

You did try those instructions, first, before looking around for another source of a package that might work?

Search the Brave Community.

Did it, but I limited the search to 20.3. One more mistake never to make again.

Note that @JimB1 inquired, if the following instructions are being used:

Yes, that’s where I began. Looked elsewhere only when I couldn’t make that work. It’s also where I tried most recently in case I had made a mistake the first couple of times.

Using copy/paste this time, it worked. I still have no clue what I was doing wrong.

Many thanks to all.
