Brave does not work with the Barnes and Noble Sefl Publishing site

Something I’ve noticed, but worked around, is that Brave crashes when used to access the Barnes and Noble Self Publishing site.
https://press.barnesandnoble.com
The workaround is to use Mozilla Firefox.
However, it would be nice if Brave would work with Barnes and Noble as well.
Note:
The fun part is the errors don’t always come up, sometimes the website works and right when you think it’s been fixed, up come the error windows.
Yesterday I could not get their site to work with Brave, today I can’t seem to fault it, so I’m not sure what triggers the errors.

Cheers

Doing what? When I went there I first saw the notice pop up about being careful of scam placement offers.

I hit the Do not show me this message again prompt

And it seems to be just fine.

Then I signed in, just in case, but it still works fine:

And no matter what I attempted, it seems to work fine.

And I’m guessing this is where you edited in that part. If it’s working, then I guess will have to mark as resolved, at least for now.

If you have issues again in the future, it would also be helpful if you try some of the basic troubleshooting steps as well.

Most basic troubleshooting steps which helps to narrow down potential issues are:

  1. Disable Shields - If this lets it work, then points out there is a setting or filter that is breaking content.

  2. Open a private window and try - This opens a session with no cookies and with all extensions disabled. If the issue goes away here, it helps narrow down things to cookies or extensions.

  3. Try in a new browser profile (desktop only) - This creates a second profile with majority of settings to default. It also loads with no extensions or anything. The only thing that carries over are any custom content filters and changes to brave://flags. Anyway, if it doesn’t work on the prior two but works here, then it suggests either something in your browser settings or one of your extensions.

  4. Trying on Brave Beta and/or Brave Nightly - If it doesn’t work in the above but it works here, then it could be a version specific issue. But then is always good to go back and check things like the custom content filters or changes to brave://flags

  5. Testing on Chrome - Honestly if an issue persists in all of the above, it’s generally not a Brave issue. This would say it’s either Chromium specific or something else on your device. But at least by checking on Chrome, it helps to narrow things down a bit.

Anyway, @MichaelBlucher, would be great if you could reply back and confirm whether you are saying it’s resolved for you at this time.

I think the problem crops up when you actually enter the details of a book to be published.

I haven’t been able to trigger the error while editing the details of a book.

It seems to only come up when creating a new book.

Bingo!

The errors start during book creation. The error is as follows:

These errors start in the following section of book creation.

I hope that helps.

Cheers.
P.S. Once the error comes up, the error keeps coming up on the website until the Browser tab is closed.

Further checking. The error continues coming up when trying to access the site via a new Browser tab.

Good luck. It’s a weird one.

@Mattches beyond OP trying the steps I provided earlier, do you have any thoughts to add?

@MichaelBlucher can you consistently reproduce the error on your end when trying to create a new book? That is, does this occur in Brave every time you try to perform those steps?

Yes, it does.

Only on the creation of a book and it starts at the page depicted in my previous reply.

It is possible to begin the creation of a book, say “TEST”, just to generate the error. The “TEST” Book can be deleted later.

If you add to brave://adblock (custom rules) and reload the website.

barnesandnoble.com##+js(brave-fix)

Does it work?

I have no idea how to do that

Sure, I’ll roll it out, re-test the site in 4-5hrs. Ensure shields is enabled on barnesandnoble

Roll it out?
Re-test in 4-5 hours?

@MichaelBlucher he was saying since you didn’t know how to add custom rules, he was going to add it to the filters, which your browser should have fetched in background updates. So then was asking you to try everything again to see if the issue went away. Just was telling you to give it 4-5 hours from the time he replied to you

I had no idea that there were background updates.

The error actually came up earlier this time:

On an earlier screen.

In Shields, disabling fingerprinting/screen (like in the screenshot). The relogin.

Does that fix it?

https://github.com/brave/adblock-lists/pull/2277 should fix it for everyone. no need for manual changes in shields

Almost there.

The previous errors don’t come up now.

However, there is still a problem on two of these pages.

The display of the Print proof on the screen fails as does the display of the Book Cover proof.

These are both PDFs.

Any ideas???

Any ideas on how to fix those 2 pages?

It is an important part of the process.

Being able to review the uploaded interior proof and cover proof is necessary.

Not a publisher, but just used some clipart and random text. Seem fine so far.

Shield settings; They should be similar. Note fingerprinting.

Well, that now seems to work.

I already have those settings.

Although I don’t know why it worked this time but failed the last time.

The process now flows from start to finish without error.

Thanks.
