Brave crashing when opening youtube

brave crashing when opening youtube

Yep. Started getting this again. W7 build (lol..).
Interestingly, Youtube ads started coming through just beforehand, too (previously black screen for x seconds).

Exact same as this, likely the Components need updating:

@fanboynz Willing to work your magic again mate? Would be much appreciated.

Im on an older build because its the last one I can update to on the OS im on.

This just happened for me. Over the last week Ive been getting pop up warnings from youtube that ad block isnt allowed. Today I went to start a video that was already open and it crashed brave, it just closed. I go to reopen, same thing.

I searched around and seen posts from 2024 about updating components, so I went and updated them all. Well now brave no longer works at all. It opens but its just black and even if I click about to see what version im on to let you guys know here, nothing happens.

Just for the heck of it, i closed brave, reopened it and right clicked on the brave icon on tool bar (mac), pressed option and then forced quit and brave is working again. Youtube is still crashing/closing brave when I try and open though.

Im on Version 1.57.64 Chromium: 116.0.5845.188 (Official Build) (x86_64)

This is as high as I can go without updating the OS which for me is a nightmare.

Read the entire old thread.

Went into brave settings, set youtube as shields down. When I got in there, there was cause for other concern. Google and reddit was on the list for shields down which is crazy because I never added them.

Went and downloaded ublock origin.

Youtube is back to working a ublock is now blocking ads.

Kind of concerned how google and reddit was on the shields down list.

While this may be working for now, it would of be nice to not have to use Ublock and have a update in brave components on the ad blocking issue.

I’ve never had a problem with this until today. (No issues a year ago when apparently YT started doing this.)
I’m on an older Brave version - Version 1.57.47 Chromium: 116.0.5845.96 (Official Build) (x86_64) - because my ancient MacBook Pro’s OS cannot be upgraded (and it is still a perfectly adequate machine for my purposes - plus it has the matt screen Apple no longer make - best screen ever!)

So, do I have to disable shields for YT and install uBlock to stop YT crashing the browser? Are there any other options?

PS As far as I can see, if I want to turn off shields for YT, I have to be able to open a YT tab and adjust the settings via the lion shield in the address bar. This is a Catch-22, of course, because I cannot open YT without it crashing the browser! There should be a way to add a site to a list in Brave Settings.

This just started affected me, I had to use a VPN to access to Youtube before this. I am living in Russia at the moment.

I also have a very old version of Brave and I can not update since I have a very old Mac OS.

To get future Brave updates, you’ll need macOS 10.15 or later. This computer is using macOS 10.13. Learn more

I have OS High Sierra 10.13.6 I guess I need to get rid of using Google and Youtube in the laptop for good.

By the way I was using UBlock for a while, this method is currently not working for me either.

I want to reivindicate this post. UBlock method is currently not working for me.

This was happening to me on Youtube until i disabled the tracker shield but i am still getting crashes on forums with links to Youtube,

i’m using an older version of Brave.

This is worse than I thought and mentioned above. Its now crashing on random websites. One example is anytime I click on google images it crashes. Starting to get ultra annoying.

The crashing from youtube links on the forum i use has all of a sudden stopped now, strange, wonder if it will last.

Guys, please check some of the previous post that were made on this topic. You may be able to try different solutions there.

I did that and mentioned it above. The only real solution is to ditch brave. Why would I keep using brave with shields off? Isnt that the whole point of this browser? Ill go back to safari and gain a bunch of battery life back.

Wow! You must be dangerous Brave users if you manage to crash YouTube or vice versa? How do you do it? I use Brave just for YouTube and I don’t turn off anything and a minimum of extensions. Always the latest version.
