Brave Crashes on Startup (Windows 10)

windows
bug

#1

Hey guys I’ve been using brave for about a year now and recently encountered a problem I’ve never come across before. For seemingly no reason at all, my Brave browser started crashing on start up.

I run Windows 10, 64 bit.

Under Apps and Features, my Brave version says “0.22.721”, i’m not sure if that is the correct version you guys are looking for.

The problem usually goes like so:

  1. Open Brave Browser.
  2. Brave Browser opens and loads for one second
before freezing. I am then left with the following screen.

I have tried, reinstalling a thousand times. I have tried restarting my computer several times. I am unsure what to do at this point.

Any help or advice is appreciated. I’m just desperate at this point.

Hi @ervinjenriquez

We have an issue logged for this: https://github.com/brave/browser-laptop/issues/14202

But we have not been able to reproduce. If possible, could you try launching Brave using git bash (instructions here: Browser crashes seconds after launch) and let us know if there are any errors in the console?

Thanks,
Lauren

Deleting ledger-state.json cleared this up, although after a little while I am now unable to switch tabs.

This started happening to me yesterday as well. Very frustrating.

Win 10 64-bit, Brave 0.22.721. Tried uninstall and installing dev branch as well, nothing worked.

Deleting ledger-state.json fixed the issue for me as well.
For anyone finding this in the future, it is located in “AppData\Roaming\brave”.
