Brave crashes after a few hours after upgrade to 1.80.113 on MX-Linux

Recently upgraded to v1.80.113 on Linux. The browser crashes after running a while. Also the little top right “caret” that brings up the tab search (--a) disappeared. It’s really unstable. Been using Brave for years and never experienced this. Is no one else having this problem?

Running MX-Linux
Linux squire 6.1.0-9-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Debian 6.1.27-1 (2023-05-08) x86_64 GNU/Linux

Brave Version(v1.80.113):

@scherrey in terms of crashing, you should provide crash reports if there are any. Also may be helpful if you can watch to see if there’s anything in common when you see it crashing. Think about how many tabs open, if watching videos, just sitting there doing nothing, or what type of activity is occurring.

Chromium moved it. You’ll notice it’s the same on Chrome and others. Tab search is still there, but it’s now image instead.

If that’s not showing for you, then you may need to have the toggle on under Settings → Appearance.

Thanks much! I see that icon now thanks. I’ve uploaded the following crash reports:
197d2800-6d45-120e-0000-000000000000
0c802800-6d45-120e-0000-000000000000

I always have about a dozen windows and between 6-20 tabs per window. It’s always crashing when I’m not looking. No videos playing or anything like that. Just seems to disappear randomly after several hours but my computer is not running out of resources as it has 32G RAM and nothing else resource intensive running. Only 4.2% SWAP and 60% RAM usage. This is how I’ve been running Brave for years without incident.

Something tells me they’ll only see an out of memory error based on the description, but let me tag in @Mattches to see if he can kind of look into those crash reports and get back to you. Just be advised with how busy he and devs are, it can sometimes take several days to hear back. But hopefully won’t be long.

In the meanwhile, I guess I would ask how easy it is to replicate? If it’s regularly happening and easily reproducible, maybe would have you test the following:

  1. Open in a private window to see if it happens there as well.
  2. Create a second browser profile, any issues?
  3. Change whatever setting your using on graphics acceleration at settings → system. If you usually have it off, turn it on. If on, turn it off. Just temporarily to see if anything changes
  4. If you don’t mind adding Brave Beta or Brave Nightly, it might be worth it to add one or both of them to your device and see if the issue happens there as well.

And more out of curiosity, but if you go to brave://components is everything there able to update with no issues?
