Brave converting pairs of characters and search cannot find how to disable it

Description of the issue:
When typing certain pairs of characters in the search or address bar, Brave converts them to a different typeface to look as if they are one character. For example, the .NET “lambda” operator equals greater-than. It’s even doing it here while typing this post: => and presumably it does this for other special pairs of characters. Brave also does this in search result previews, but not in the actual result pages when you visit them.

This is unexpected, disconcerting, no permission was given to the browser to do it, and there appears to be no way to disable it. Worst of all, Brave search cannot understand what is being searched for when I try to search for it, returning many unrelated results; so even Brave’s own search can’t tell me how to disable it

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.
Type a search query in the search box or address bar that includes an equals sign followed by a greater-than sign; that is = followed by >.

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
The characters appear in a different typeface that looks like the same thing but appears to be one character, even though it isn’t: =>

Expected result:
The characters appear as a literal equals sign immediately followed by a literal greater-than sign in the correct typeface.

Reproduces how often:
Always. It also does this inside search results.

Operating System and Brave Version(See the About Brave page in the main menu):
Linux Mint 22.1; Brave Version 1.76.74 Chromium: 134.0.6998.89 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Additional Information:
While I can see how this might be useful to some people, kinda like direct support for APL if anyone still uses that, it is alien to me as I work in a mono-spaced font when developing.

Moreover, no program has any business transforming my typing unless I have given it express and explicit permission to do so. Please don’t do things behind my back.

Vanilla Chrome respects my typing and does not do this or even offer to.

Please can anyone tell me if there a way to disable this behaviour?

What exactly are you searching for?
