Okay so As far as I know when you enable these content filters from the dedicated menu they are supposed to block off certain parts of certain websites
But even after so I can still load shorts on YT.
And also I want to add custom filters of my own, to block of facebook and instagram reels. Someone pls let me know how I can do that. But for now I’m not even able to block off the contents that are included in the list.
@15r4r to start, I can’t see all the options you have selected in the filter lists – it looks like you have EastList cookie, Fanboy's mobile notifications, Youtube Mobile distractions and Youtube mobile recommendations.
For removing shorts, you should also select the specific filter Youtube Anti-Shorts:
If you do not have this one selected already, please do so and you should no longer see shorts on your feed. If that doesn’t work or if you already had it selected let me know.
As for making custom filters, there are a couple of ways to go about this. Shields uses the same filter rules as uBlock origin does, so you can reference those and make the filters yourself if you’re familiar with using the dev tools inspector.
However, I would recommend using the browser’s built-in element blocker feature (note that the documentation I linked to is slightly out of date so things may look different in the browser build you’re using than they do in the document, but the general idea is still the same).
You can start the element blocker by right-clicking on any page and selecting Block elements. Your cursor will change into an “element selector” that highlights different elements/sections of the web page you’re viewing. From there, it’s just a matter of finding the right elements to block.
While I don’t have an FB or IG account to show you how to block reels on those sites specifically, here’s a short recording of me blocking the Brave IG highlights/reels – the process on your end should be similar:
I’ve got Anti-Shorts selected, and lists are updated. Still not working. Having to use another 3rd party extension to get rid of it. And Thank you for the video by the way it helped. But that right click menu doesn’t even show “Block Element” option on the youtube website.
@15r4r I know you said you already updated but just to make sure, can you launch Brave and go to brave://components, find the Youtube anti-shorts component here and click Check for update? Once done, please share the version number shown for that component with me here so I can confirm that you’re using the latest one.
While you’re there, you may as well also ensure that the following components are also updated:
Brave Ad Block List Catalog
Brave Ads Resources (US)
Brave Ad Block Updater
Brave Experimental Adblock Rules
Brave Ad Block Resources Library
That is…strange. You’re saying that when you right-click on Youtube you don’t see Block elements appear in the context menu at all?
Yeah the Youtube anti-shorts compotent is up-to-date running version 1.0.6
and yes, I do not see any block elements menu, and that is only for youtube and discord. and it working for other websites.
@15r4r do you have shields off by chance? Look at the lion icon on top when you’re on the site (YouTube). If you have it disabled for the site then you would not have the block elements on your right click menu. It would also explain why everything is not working. I’m wondering if perhaps at some point you accidentally turned it off or adjusted the level of blocking.
That icon is the site specific setting. So it would still work elsewhere. Just trying to think what might of any little thing that might answer what’s going on and it’s what seems the simplest possibility.
@15r4r can you please try creating a new profile in the browser (Menu → More tools → Add profile) and test to see Block elements appears in the context menu there?
