Brave Closing itself in Android 11

Brave Closing itself in Android 11; Specifically Redmi Note 8 Pro. It just randomly closing. This issue since 1.45 'till now.

@neutronnstarr think you can provide more details? For example:

  • What specific version of Brave are you using?

  • Does it close itself immediately upon opening or can you use it a bit?

  • If able to use before it closes, does it seem to happen when doing anything in particular?

  • Can you go to brave://flags and see if there are any crash reports there? If so, make sure they are sent by hitting Send Now, restart the browser, then go back to brave://crashes and provide the Uploaded crash report ID.

  • What specific version of Brave are you using?
    -1.51.121

  • Does it close itself immediately upon opening or can you use it a bit?
-I CAN USE IT A BIT AND JUST RANDOMLY CLOSE

  • If able to use before it closes, does it seem to happen when doing anything in particular?
    -It’s random

  • Can you go to brave://flags and see if there are any crash reports there? If so, make sure they are sent by hitting Send Now, restart the browser, then go back to
-YES, THERE IS. I ALREADY SENT IT

Sorry, I left out an important part of the instructions. Can you copy/paste the Uploaded Crash Report ID here? It’s preferable to have it here in text format rather than a screenshot, if you can.

@neutronnstarr Close, but not it. Once you submit the report, it will show a crash report ID. Screenshot from my Android:

Thanks for that. I’ll tag in @Mattches and @steeven. They’ll pass on your info to developers or might be able to pull it themselves. Either way, will hopefully guide you a bit more.

It looks like this is related to the autofill crash issue we’ve seen recently:

@neutronnstarr to confirm, can you please disable your autofill service (set it to “none”) in your Android system settings and then test and see if the browser crashes stop?

Thank you

okay, let me check it.

When i set autofill to none, It didn’t crash anymore

Thank you for the confirmation.
Unfortunately there is no fix other than this for now, but our Android team is trying to find a fix for this issue asap. Appreciate your patience here.

Hi! I want to follow up this issue. Is it fixed?

@neutronnstarr No. Likely won’t be for a while. Instead of asking here, you should check at the link that was given to you before, which is https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/30338 as these Github links show you the oversall status of a project.

And if you scroll to the bottom of that link, you’ll see that Sergey, one of the Android developers, shared a link to https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1280378 and changed the topic to Issue is in Chromium; we'll likely wait for the fix.

This means it’s likely not something Brave will be fixing directly. Instead, it will be something Chromium team needs to fix upstream. That said, I’ll still tag @Mattches and @steeven back over to this in case they can give more information.

And @Serg as I’m looking closer, I see you mentioned the Chromium one, but they have it labeled as fixed (closed). Just wondering, have you been in touch with Chromium team to get it going? Want to make sure we’re not waiting on them to “fix” something that was marked as fixed back in August 2022.

@Saoiray it’s marked as fixed/closed, but it’s not fixed unfortunately, there are comments from people that it still happens. I personally can’t replicate it nor in Chrome nor in Brave. The crash happens somewhere inside Android OS, not sure we can do something there unless Google steps up. I left a comment there to reconsider the Fixed status, hope it triggers some actions on their side.
