Brave can't start

Brave suddenly started slowing down gradually, then can’t start anymore. I re-installed a new copy but, I did not remove the original for fear of losing my data. However, it still would not start. All my alternative browsers like Chrome and Opera are working properly. I have used Brave for nearly 2 years and never had a problem until now.

Hmm I can see that being annoying, not sure why it won’t start. (assuming Windows here).

  1. Ensure you have no Brave tasks running
  2. Open File Explorer.
  3. Try renaming “Brave-browser” in %userprofile%\AppData\Local\BraveSoftware to “Brave-Browser-old”.
  4. Restart Brave

This should start Brave fresh.
