Brave Browser stopped loading suddenly


Description of the issue: Browser just quit loading worked night before.
How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Double click shortcut or brave.exe in folder.

Expected result: Browser to load normally!

Brave Version( check About Brave): unable to get version due to the fact it doesn’t load.

Additional Information: Just stopped loading on the 27th of June 2025. Did a deep dive into the rabbit hole looking for Alice for answers. I have tried everything I have found, to no avail. Such as uninstall / reinstall, shut down Avast firewall and shields, run as admin, turn off run as admin, run as different user, --disable-gpu, --incognito, forced uninstall with wise program uninstaller then installed latest version “BraveBrowserSetup-BRV002” none of which solved the issue. Also when I click the Brave Icon I get prompted by UAC “if I want to allow this app to make changes” which is a normal thing, but when I click yes I get a blue circle next to curser for like a few milliseconds. Then nothing! Checked Task Manager Brave is not running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have run Brave for 4 or 5 years without any issues. Now I am going bat dung crazy trying to get it working again.

did you make sure to tell it to delete history when you did that? If not, the folders would have remained. This means anything corrupted would still be there.

Yeah, don’t do the run as admin anymore. Did you happen to do everything as instructed at Brave doesn't start when I run it as administrator and Brave Shield doesn't work - #41 by clifton which is to change permissions of your folders?

I did clean out the registry and remove folders.

I did see that post and tried to change the owner but I was getting an error trying. the owner is Admin. I guess I am not sure what to type in the “enter object name” box I put in my user name as it shows up in the permissions window. Although I got an error pop-up saying the name cant be found. It seems that I am unsure of how to change the owner.

Update from yesterday. I checked the Icon on the taskbar and it was owned by my account. It also has the Run as Admin turned off. It still does not work! BTW I would like to add I use CCleaner Pro and after I try to run the Brave browser and happen to run cclean there is cache files from brave to get removed. Even though it never opened. Anyhow I had seen other post that people installed Brave-Beta, so I thought I would give it a go. Low and behold the beta runs at this point anyways. I would still like to have a good stable running version, but I don’t mind helping out with the beta. If we can find a true solution would be great. Thank you for your help so far. @orbdweller not sure if it might not just be easier to uninstall and purge data, then install again to resolve. If you do that, would want to export bookmarks and passwords so you can easily bring them back again.

If you uninstall, make sure you chose the checkbox that should appear to ask if you want to delete browsing history. If you don’t choose this, it will retain your folders and the issue will remain.

If you prefer just to try to fix the folders issue, I’m not sure if https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/38609#issuecomment-2195847971 has easier to understand step by step directions on what to choose and do.

Or you could try a different method, going as explained at Brave stopped blocking ads - #13 by alankillie as some have said it works solidly as well.

Brave Beta and Brave Nightly work as separate browsers so a fresh install would work to have them running.

I believe have removed everything and will double check then try a new install. I will let ya know the outcome. Thanks for all the help!
