Brave browser is out of date

I am getting the message to update even though I have the latest version?
So, I am seeing this:

But when I go to the about page I see this:

I am ignoring that and I am downloading the latest installer from the website and when I try to reinstall I get this

Windows 11.
Any ideas?

Are the Brave Browser components updating? In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://components

seems so

sorry, as I said, after downloading the installer from brave.com/download and running (without uninstalling first) it I get this

.
Also, the installer I download from the website seems to be an older version than the one I am seeing in brave://settings/help (1.75.2 vs 1.73.104)

The following URL address, is where you can visit and find the most recent, stable (not “Beta”, nor “Nightly”) versions of Brave Browser:

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/blob/master/CHANGELOG_DESKTOP.md

You would click on the version number (currently “1.73.105”):

The browser will be redirected to another webpage that shows something like (in our example):

Release v1.73.105 (Chromium 131.0.6778.265)

Then, you would scroll down to locate the installer that applies to your computing device and its Operating System.

In your case, you would be looking for the following section of possible installers for the Windows OS (in our example):

You are probably going to select 1 of the following 2:

brave-v1.73.105-win32-arm64.zip

brave-v1.73.105-win32-x64.zip

BEFORE you run the installer . . . try to:

So that you are prepared for subsequent steps:

Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the Advanced tab

Set Time range to “All time”

ENABLE everything except:

  • Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, be prepared.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

If you cannot take those steps, before running the installer, at least:

With BB not running, delete the ‘Caches’ folder, and delete the ‘Cookies’ file.

Caches (folder):

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Cache\

Cookies (file):

  • %LOCALAPPDATA%\BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default\Cookies

Last tip: ALWAYS perform a full restart of a computing device, before running an installer.

why is my current version shown as
image
if the latest is 1.73 and how could that happen??

Please go to:

brave://version

Scroll down to “Profile Path:”

Copy the portion of the path, beginning with the character string:

\BraveSoftware\ . . . (and so on)

And report that, here.

@jasonidis Long story short it just seems like you somehow got the Nightly version pushed through to Release somehow. Either you just use it like that until it catches up or you’re going to have to uninstall and reinstall like had been instructed when a similar thing happened back around October.

@kamil I just wanted to tag you in on this as you had been involved the last time there was a similar issue.

@jasonidis did you ever install Brave Nightly or Brave Beta?

BraveSoftware\Brave-Browser\User Data\Default

Nightly, I think, at some point in the past, but we are talking about a year ago and I seem to remember it working alongside the stable version
