This happened some months ago. IIRC, it was due to some Brave internal adblock updates which were incompatible with older versions.
Brave support most likely, like that time, will only say that your browser is not supported and you must upgrade to Windows 10 and install latest Brave browser version.
I also use Windows 7 as of now and cannot upgrade my PC since it’s a laptop which runs fine for every other program.
Let’s hope the devs find out again and keep in mind which are users out there which are using old version to keep changes compatible.
Thanks for your reply. But today I’ve resigned myself to the fact that YouTube would only work for me on Windows 7 with Brave’s ad shields disabled, according to what I just read in another thread. Still, despite everything, I’m grateful to the Brave team for all their good work, since this is all recent, and the Brave version with its ad blockers for Windows 7 was working relatively well until just these last few days. For my part, I will remain loyal to Brave and will use the most updated version of the browser on Windows 10/11, but also on Windows 7, despite the cost of having to disable the shields on this last one.
Yeah but not only Youtube, for me even Google search causes Brave 1.47.186 to crash (maybe due to some videos in the search result).
At the moment, only way is to turn off Brave shields for Google & Youtube.
I had an idea. First, disable Brave’s shields to access YouTube, then enable the shields. After a few tests, I see that ads at the beginning of videos fail to be blocked, but from then on, it seems that ads are usually blocked either midway through the video or at the end. Although I still need to do more tests, of course.
Mine was crashing on Youtube until i disabled trackers and adblocking shield, but i am still getting a crash when i open threads on certain forum sites that has links to Youtube,
i am using the last Version of Brave that supports Win 7 as i cannot upgrade just yet.
Yeah, that’s right. I use Brave browser Versión 1.47.186 Chromium: 109.0.5414.119 (Build oficial) (64 bits) on my loved Windows 7. There’s no way to update the app because this one was the last version compatible with Windows 7 and I always used it on its default settings. But now it crashes trying to access to YouTube unless I disable the shields.
But the issue became tricky for me, but here’s the catch.
Brave crashes for trying to access to YouTube (shields enabled).
Open again the browser and disable the shields: Configuration>Brave Shields>Blocking trackers and ads here select “disabled” and keep this tab open.
Once Brave shields are disabled you will be able to access the main YouTube page again in another tab. Then I return to Configuration tab and enable Brave shields keeping my YouTube tab open as well. I was afraid that doing such a thing would cause a crash again but no… Apparently Brave browser crashes on YouTube only when shields are activated from before and not after.
Go back to YouTube tab and watch some videos. Mostly Brave shields will fail to block the ads at the beggining of videos but from then on they seem to function normally and that’s it.
I don’t know how long this trick will work, but oh well…
Thanks.
I tried that but YT still crashed Brave.
First I disabled everything in Shields and then accessed an embedded YT video in an email. Crash
Then I did it and closed Brave, Reopened with just one (new) tab open. Shields were off. Accessed youtube.com and… crash.
Will try booting my Mac in safe mode and see what can be done from there.
I can’t object to YT deciding not to let me view with Shields up, but crashing the browser is nothing but deliberate vandalism, pure and simple.
The problem is that they use outdated OS systems and outdated versions of Brava. No amount of knowledge helps. For example, I found why do videos on YouTube crack? Instead of the video, it throws some error in the window where the video is. I wrote here but no one found a solution. By experimenting I found what the problem was.
