Brave browser close all tabs after changing theme automatically in my phone

Description of the issue:
I have enabled chrome://flags/#darken-websites-checkbox-in-themes-setting cause of changing automatically theme based on the time of day. The problem is that I also enabled close tabs on exit because of deleting browser data and after automatic changing of theme in my phone, all tabs are closed and only when i play youtube in the background it still plays but without tab open.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Enable chrome://flags/#darken-websites-checkbox-in-themes-setting
  2. Check in settings close tabs on exit.
  3. Change theme in your mobile phone.

Expected result:
All tabs should be closed and only background audio if plays will work.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.76.81, Chromium 134.0.6998.166

Mobile Device details
Samsung A54 Android 14

Additional Information:
None

I restructured your issue, so I could more easily understand . . .

The problem is:

  • Enabled Close tabs on exit
  • because of deleting browser data
  • and
  • after automatic changing of theme in my Samsung phone
  • all tabs are closed
  • and
  • ONLY when I play YouTube in the background
  • it still plays but without tab open.

What I expect:

  • All tabs should be closed
  • and
  • ONLY background audio (if plays) will work.

Do I have that, correctly?

You should know, that Brave developers are working on disabling background audio when tabs are closed:

https://github.com/brave/brave-browser/issues/44852

No i expect it to not close during changing my theme from light to dark during the sunset. The problem is that when my phone change change theme automatically with setting close tabs on exit, all tabs are closed. Is there any possibility to change how this setting works (to not trigger during the change of theme in my phone) or is it something more related to how chromium works and needs to be addressed there?

@spytek it’s probably because you’re using that flag which, as stated on the flags page, not only is not implemented by Brave, but all flags by nature are experimental and may not work and/or break functionality:

Instead of using the flag, you should try just setting the Brave theme to System default. If your Samsung device goes from Light → Dark automatically, then Brave’s theme will also automatically switch from Light → Dark.

Disable the flag, set Brave’s theme to System default and you should be good to go.

The problem is that this is the only flag that automatically makes all webpages dark. The other way is to use dark reader on firefox cause it’s the only browser I know that uses extensions on android. Without this setting I would have to manually enable dark theme for websites in the browser. Thats why I write about it here. Maybe there is a chance that devs will try to deal with it or It will be added to issues. The setting also is not the perfect cause it also affects images and it can’t be changed like in the manual dark theme option.

Yeah we do have the experimental “night mode” feature which does make all web pages dark, but as you stated would have to be manually enabled or disabled. So not a lot we can do here at the moment. You’re welcome to submit a feature request for it here on Community or on our Github.

Okay maybe I’ll try but I guess there are many people who just did that request with dark mode I don’t think that mine will change anything. The problem I have is more about behaviour of using dark mode I guess cause its in flags the browser needs to be restarted like in the settings so I think it’s more up to chromium devs if they will implement full dark mode support for websites as not the expermiental feature. The only thing that comes into my mind would be enabling extensions on the mobile version of this browser. Is that even possible, is someone working on that or brave devs even consider this option?
