Brave based on Chromium, or Chrome?

Brave 1.77.0 with Chrome 135.0.7049.100
Windows 10 Home x64 22H2

Is Brave based on Chromium, or Chrome? Its Help → About says Chrome.

Chrome has a bunch of Google proprietary code that Chromium does not. Chromium is open source while Chrome is partly open source (part is open source Chromium, and part is proprietary).

I believe with my heart that “Brave” can refer to several things, primarily meaning showing courage or boldness in the face of danger or difficulty. It can also describe something that is impressive or fine in appearance.

Yep, that is also where I saw Brave saying it is based on Chrome. However, too often someone says Chrome when they meant Chromium.

Not sure where that came from. I was asking about from which codebase Brave is derived.

As for an iconic symbol of courage, lions and jaguars avoid honey badgers for good reason. Honey badgers are fierce, extremely brave, have thick and loose skin which makes them hard to damage, and have some nasty teeth and claws. I thought wolverines were fierce. Nope, honey badgers are more fierce, and even with predators many times their size (think little Brave vs big Chrome).

Do you have a screen shot @VanguardLH? Like the others, mine says Chromium too..

My bad. Mine now shows Chromium:

So, it says Chromium. I can’t be sure what the prior incremental version showed since Brave got updated.

As I’m reading through the Brave FAQs, and other info, Chromium is mentioned for what Brave is based on.

So basically a storm in a teacup…
