My config: Brave 1.77.101 with Chrome 135.0.7049.115, Windows 10 Home x64 22H2
After setting Brave as the default web browser, there are still some filetype and protocol associations assigned to other web clients. Under Default Apps → Set defaults by app, Brave is not listed as the default handler for the following filetypes or protocols (the currently assigned client is shown parenthesized):
- .mhtml (Edge)
- .shtml (Firefox)
- .svg (Edge)
There are filetypes or protocols not assigned to any handler, but Brave is listed as a candidate, like:
- .xhtml/.xht
- SMS
- TEL
For info about the filetypes or protocols, see:
- MHTML: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MHTML. This was the doc format when saving an entire web page into a file rather than having the main HTML in a file with all its resources in subfolders.
- SHTML: https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/glossary/what-is-shtml/.
- SVG: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SVG. An image format.
- XHTML: https://www.w3schools.com/html/html_xhtml.asp.
- SMS: GMS standard used for texting. Brave is listed as a candidate, as well as other web clients, but not sure how a web browser is going to handle SMS/text traffic.
- TEL: Click-to-call links in web pages.
After setting Brave as the default web client, I’m wondering if I should switch the filetypes and protocols to Brave that are currently assigned to other web browsers.
