I have found two of three websites that are listed under Recent Activity (Site and Shields Settings) showing as “blocked” though I would not have blocked either of them. I also have not visited those two sites recently.
When I click on each of them to drill down, all three report “No usage data”.
I don’t know what to make of that but when I removed the blocks on the two that had them other sites started appearing as ‘blocked’ (as if to fill in the spots of the sites that I had unblocked). Again, I don’t know why any of these are blocked. None of them are ‘suspicious’.
Is there a global setting to make all the blocked sites “Ask (default)” so I don’t have to go one-by-one to unblock them?
Also what is the default setting for ‘Trackers and Ads blocking’? Mine was set to ‘aggressive’. Is the default actually ‘Standard’ instead?
Example of website I never blocked showing ‘blocked’ status.
If I then unblock it (i.e., switch it to “Ask (default)”), another ‘blocked’ website fills in the place that was ‘vacated’ by the unblock.
In this case, the ‘new’ blocked entry that appears is “community.brave.com”.
Without my having blocked these websites, what would be causing them – i…e, non-suspicious websites – to show ‘blocked’ status?
@mk7z these sites are not blocked, it’s just that the location permission is blocked on the sites displayed. I believe that the list you’re viewing is just the “recent activity” and it is just refilling itself with the most recent sites where permission activity occurred, such as when a permission was set for the first time, or changed for the first time, blocked by the browser and/or Shields, etc. – whether in the background or done intentionally.
Community was blocked by me manually (for the purpose of testing this), but setting the permission to Ask and then waiting for a notification. When I was sent a notification, I clicked Block.
For Calendar, I set the site permission to Block in the browser then made an event in the calendar for 1 minute later. The notification of the event was blocked and thus appeared in the Recent activity section.
@mattches Thanks for that though not sure I fully understand. I attribute any blocking to being by “the browser and/or Shields” as I haven’t in recent memory proactively blocked any websites re: ‘location’ or any other parameter and would not have added any kind of blocking to community.brave.com. (Is ‘location’ just being used as a synonym for the ‘webpage’, not my location?)
Is Brave Community perhaps blocked because I haven’t enabled ‘notifications’ (not ‘location’ information) in macOS? I’ve noticed that when I attempt to enable notifications (anywhere) I get a message that macOS is blocking them and I’d have to change a preferences setting to receive them.
