Block Scripts disabled but can't sign on to Chrome Web Store

I tried logging into my Google Account at the Chrome Web Store. I got the following message:
“Couldn’t sign you in. The browser you’re using doesn’t support JavaScript, or has JavaScript turned off.”
I did a web search on how to enable JavaScript in Brave and read several responses.
I went to Settings/Shields and saw that Block Scripts was already disabled.
I refreshed all the different screens that were involved with the same result. I don’t know what else to do or where to go.

I just downloaded the latest Brave browser on my new laptop that I’m trying to bring up to speed. “About Brave” says that “Brave is up to date. Version 1.73.91 Chromium” etc.

I’ve been using home computers since Windows 3.1, so I’ve had some experience in getting around Windows and Browsers in general, but this one has be stumped. Help is appreciated. Thanks.

How to Back Up Passwords that are stored by Brave Browser

Scrolling down the webpage at:

https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018185951-How-do-I-use-the-built-in-password-manager

A note states:

Export Passwords - Selecting Download file will export all credentials you’ve saved in your browser as a .CSV file onto your system. Note that anyone who has access to your system will be able to open and view this file, so it is recommended that you delete this file once you’ve used the file for its intended purpose.”

In order to encrypt that .CSV file:

https://nordvpn.com/blog/how-to-password-protect-a-zip-file/

And be sure to copy that compressed and encrypted file, to an external drive that you safely store.

How to manually back up your Bookmarks as an HTML file

Two ways to get to the Bookmarks Manager.

One way:

  1. Launch Brave and open the Main menu: newmenuicon.png
  2. Select Bookmarks --> Bookmarks Manage
  3. Open the More options menu at the top right
  4. Select Export and choose where you want to store the exported file.

Another way:

  1. In a new Brave Browser window, go to: brave://bookmarks
  2. Locate the “Organize” (vertically-arrayed 3-dot) menu button in the upper-right area of the window; click on that
  3. You should get a pop-up menu, in which you click on the “Export bookmarks” selection and choose where you want to store the exported file.

The exported file name: “bookmarks.html”

Be sure to store a copy on an external drive.

Clear cookies, cache, history, etc.

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/clearBrowserData

Select the Advanced tab

Set Time range to “All time”

ENABLE everything except:

  • Passwords and other sign-in data

(Myself, I would NOT make that exception)
(because I would have a backup prepared.)
(In other words, be prepared.)

Click on the “Clear data” button

In a Brave Browser New Window go to:

brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Allowed to use javascript

Click the Add button

Enter [*.]google.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following:

  • Current Private session only

Click the Add button

Repeat those steps for:

  • [*.]firebaseapp.com
  • [*.]gmail.com
  • [*.]googleapis.com
  • [*.]googleusercontent.com
  • [*.]gstatic.com
  • [*.]youtube.com

Shields Basics

How do I configure global and site-specific Shields settings?

How do I use Shields while browsing?

Suggest that you try the following Brave Browser Shields global settings:

Then visit the website of interest - using a Brave Browser New Private Window.

And tap the Brave Shields icon in the Brave Browser window for that website . . . and set “Block Trackers & Ads” to Standard.

The webpage will probably reload, then try to sign in.

IF that does not work, then return to the Brave Browser Shields global settings, and set “Trackers & ads blocking” to Standard.

Thank you. While some of this stuff was a bit overwhelming, I was able to finally log on to Google. I’m definitely saving this information. Thanks again.
