What is the best way to stop certain sites from flagging each login as a new device while still retaining the most secure and private settings?
I know there have been other posts related to this, but I’m trying to put it all together as some FI’s are flagging my account since every login is being identified as being from a new device.
Specifically, wondering about the site-specific shields settings including “Block scripts”, “Block fingerprinting”, “Block third-party cookies”, and “Forget me when I close this site.”
I’m not sure which of those toggles can be on and if I need to allow all cookies on a site-specific basis. I’m blocking third-party cookies globally at the moment. Have read a bit about those settings to better understand them, but am still uncertain.
I do have JavaScript enabled globally, and site and shield settings are not being deleted on exit. Everything else is checked there (on exit.)
I don’t mind a site designating a login to be from a new device when I restart my browser (which I don’t do every day), but don’t want the site to do so otherwise. I read elsewhere that you need to make exceptions for (potentially) dozens of sub-domains to accomplish this which seems unwieldly.
Beyond that, once this is understood and implemented, I’d like to select “Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows” (On-device site data settings) instead of “Allow sites to save data on your device” as it’s currently set at. I realize I would have to add exceptions for the sites I want to be able to recognize my device, but then it goes back to all the sub-domains for some logins.
Part of me wants to just simplify this and turn the shields down for sites I login frequently to, but then I’d lose the security and privacy I chose Brave for. My IT skills are rusty, but I do know some sites like Facebook (as one example) track you aggressively in obtrusive ways.
I know there are several settings involved here and this will be a retread for some folks, but I’ve spent a fair bit of time going through these forums trying to understand all this (and put it all together for my use case.)
That said, I would really appreciate it if someone could help me figure this out in a simple way (if possible) as I’m sure there are still gaps in my understanding. As it stands, I’m hesitant (and beyond annoyed since I can’t seem to find the right settings combination) to even login to certain sites since I’m getting a security email every time I do.
The browser is up to date. Thanks in advance!
