I’m using Brave Dev Build Version 0.55.2 Chromium: 70.0.3528.4 (Official Build) dev (64-bit) on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6.

It’s pretty awesome that Brave already supports the new AV1 video format.

There’s an article here about YouTube starting to test the new video format:

To see what it’s like, head over to YouTube’s special playlist for AV1 content:

The future’s looking bright!
Enjoy!

I’ve just started testing Brave Dev 0.55.3 and it’s just amazing. Feels fast and light like the early builds from a couple years ago.

Once AV1 is included into new hardware and can be accelerated, I think this will really take off as an alternative to the issues that have limited H.265/HEVC adoption.

Just wanted to add:

For anyone with older hardware (or even very new hardware) that doesn’t accelerate VP9, there are extensions that work in the Brave Dev Build to force YouTube to only play H.264 content.

The latest ImprovedTube extension works very well for me, but I’d really prefer to have a flag in Brave to toggle VP9 support like we can toggle AV1 in chrome://flags
